    Buy either one. :S

  • Apple mcair because it's a computer. personally I just can't stand typing on the cover of the Surface. Others might disagree with me though.

    • They are both computers, they have to different purposes, the macbook air is a more traditional laptop where as the surface pro 3 is a hybrid between tablet and laptop, a macbook air is pretty much spoken for it is a laptop with mac OSX, the surface pro is a bit harder to define as it does both the tablet and laptop side well, the biggest advantages of the surface would be having windows and having both a tablet and laptop interface which allows it to be more flexible but sacrifices the keyboard for the typecover. it will depend on your needs:
do you need OSX or windows? (most important if applicable)
do you need a full laptop? get the macbook air
do you need a tablet? surface
do you need something in between? surface is more flexible
if you need OSX then get a macbook air
if you need windows you can get the surface or get the macbook air and run bootcamp.

  • MacBook air, it's just better to type on, and you can always install windows on a mac if you don't like it. Plus, windows 8 is crap.

  • Buy both, try both and return one or both if youre not happy within 14 days

  • I'm a lot happier with Macbook Air as a computer. Surface Pro is neither here nor there but it looks cool and I'm sure there are some niche markets who appreciate the interface/way it works.

That being said, the MBA is very old now in terms of design so that might weigh in on your considerations if you are one who likes the latest look.

    OP

In order for us to help you out we need to know a bit more about what your use case is.

    • Do you type a lot
    • Are you invested in either eco system
    • What is your phone? It could have tie-ins to the OS of the device
    • What do you need to be able to do on it

    … And so on.

  • The Surface is a nice tablet and an ok "laptop".

If you already have a laptop, get the Surface. If you already have a tablet/iPad or a decent phone, get the Macbook Air.

If you don't already have a laptop OR tablet, get the Macbook Air
    - unless you absolutely must use a stylus for some application like drawing.

And in any case, try both of them out in the shop for yourself.

  • You don't sound like you're aware of your own needs, a Macbook is a traditional laptop, a Surface is a tablet with a pressure sensitive stylus and touch display, look at how you're going to use these devices and consider how portable you want it to be.
