Refunds for hotel bond?

Last weekend I stayed over at a hotel in sydney at the casino and was charged $204 for the bond. I left there 12pm Sunday and my bond has not shown in my bank statment yet, I read online that people saying hotel bonds can take up to 30 days to show up? Is this true.

  • Yep, max for me was two week though

  • Yeh it can take a few weeks sometimes

  • Why does it take so long? I remember my bond for hertz car rentals only took 2-3days!

If it's a pre-authorisation on your credit card, they effectively bar an amount (not physically taken) so it's not accessible. The bar is by default 1-3 days up to 4-5 depending on what bank you're with, after which it's automatically released back.

Usually hotels do not interfere with this automated process, however sometimes the amount can be 'stuck', either way, you can call the hotel, and they can contact the bank which they bank with to release the fund for you (immediately).

Actually the hotel will contact your bank on your behalf for them to release the funds, it has nothing to do with the hotel banks. Next time make sure you pay with the same credit card that you had from checkin, this will resolve your issues. Most cases come from customers changing payment methods on check out to cash or eftpos (to skip on the cc fees that some hotels charge).
