eBay Protein, Too Good to Be True?

Hey guys,

Looking for some whey protein isolate to supplement my current diet, sick of eating tuna and eggs after a big sesh and before bed

And I have looked at Venom and Bulk Nutrients
But I came across these ebay proteins which seem a good 40 ish dollars less than BN and venom

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/270938948746?ssPageName=STRK:MEWA…

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/330767212031?ssPageName=STRK:MEWA…

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/221519255454?ssPageName=STRK:MEWA…

Are these too good to be true or is it a pretty good deal?

I would rather buy in bulk and save a bit and not constantly

Any advice appreciated

  • I've tried a bunch and now I only buy the 4kg bags of Optimum Nutrition Chocolate. Highly rated protein, not the cheapest, tastes the best.

after the past fiascos of certain companies providing protein powder with far less protein content than listed on their websites and packaging, I would be wary of these suppliers on eBay.

If you get a bag, perhaps worth getting the protein content tested in them - I believe Bulk Nutrients has some free protein testing kits available.

My personal advice would be to stick with Venom or BN, but each to their own.

  • I would stick with the trusted brands since I've heard about the tests being done on some of the other brands, and it turned out that there was less protein and a lot more carbs on those. Or you could get the kit that tells you if what you have is mostly pure protein or more of carbs

I ended up buying this and ordering a protein testing kit from BN

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/231346770474?ssPageName=STRK:MEWN…

Very reasonable for 3 testers, hope for the best I guess

I'm not too fussed about taste or how well it mixes, as long as it doesnt taste horrendously bad
I will post up how I go with the samples and the test results

    • Do let us know how your test results go! Cheers :)

I ordered the sample pack from Venom (you get all the flavours - pretty interesting variety! lol) and found some okay while others left an overpoweringly artificially sweet aftertaste. That was for WPC.

They mixed really well though. I'd probably still order from them again…

Good to know. Any plans to comment on OzBargain again?

G'day, turnip… 'tas been a pretty rare occasion that a site-click hasn't seen you in at least one thread or two. According to your profile page, the above is your most recent comment - your absence rapidly heading towards a fortnight. I can see a recent login so I am tentatively ruling out ebola as the cause.

If you are just taking a break from OzBargain (I've done that before, and no doubt will again), are generally disenchanted with OzBargain (I'm familiar with that), or are just busy (also familiar with that), fine, but I can tell that something is up.
If 'b' is indeed the basis, and given proximity of time, I figure at least some possibility that I am at least partly at fault. Hence, this.

If I am wrong and have just grabbed 'wrong end of the stick', just ignore most of the next few paragraphs.

In a certain other thread - let's call it 'sweet turned a little sour', and in a reply to you, JJB did manage (not their fault, mine) to misconstrue my intent in OUR silly back-and-forth - and also (I hope, believed, assumed) your perception of same. Any misconception there by JJB - also likely my fault.

I did sense 'a moment', maybe a tacit understanding, at least on my side (likely, yours too), that the time to draw a line under the silliness had arrived. Overdue.
Just on the off chance that my reply to JJB in any way offended you, an apology, but my general, separate, in some senses 'laissez-faire' sense of the internet and much that is on it, dates from the time when modem-speed crawled and computers displayed 'blue screens of death' as often as they showed you anything useful. General disdain, occasionally tempered by a fun distraction from the day-to-day.
By the way, turnip, I do 'get' that you are human. Mainly. In the real world. Maybe. A 60-40 girl/vege split, at least.

Whatever ratios are at play - and whatever else is going on in your life - you did seem to derive considerable enjoyment from being as involved in OzBargain as you were. Irrespective of the reason, or reasons, at play - don't deprive yourself of that - or OzBargain. You are clearly much-loved on the site.
Eighteen(!) badges. In full regalia, you must look more impressive than Floriade. Tulips be damned.

        All the best, turnip.

        • lol Tas. Just general lack of energy lately, to be honest. No need to worry :P

        • @waterlogged turnip:
          Sure, + good.

This will brighten your day and increase your energy…
Have a bit of a sing. If zombies can do it, sweetheart, so can you.

        • @Tas,
You're such a gentleman. I feel so bad now because I also noticed the absence of our sweet, sweet Turnip and instead of apologising for my meddlesomeness and begging her to come back, I erm accused her of erm having eloped with erm "that sweet-talking Tas" :$
Sorry Tas. You're a better man than I am :-)
@WT,as for you, sweet Turnip, you are much loved and much admired. Please, please take better care of yourself.

          @Jar Jar Binks:
I can think of quite a few who would argue with the gentleman description, but, thanks.
          Don't sweat the other stuff.

I read a few of turnip's recent-ish comments the other day, including one slightly disturbing one where she mentions that she listens to 'The Smiths'.

Suffice it to say, I own a few albums of Morrissey and Marr's best work, and irrespective of whether t'nip is just at a bit of a low ebb physically, or maybe otherwise too, if she is listening to 'How Soon is Now' on rpt, let alone the actual title track of 'Meat is Murder', I really am a bit worried for her…

That said, in her I sense resilience in equal measure to everything else, so she'll probably be fine.
Unless she does actually have Ebola. Then, she's screwed. :(

(She definitely will have a temperature at the moment, but that could just be her cute little turnip ears burning…)

    • Any updates?

Looking to buy it too cause the price is awesome

      • I sent Bulk Nutrients an email asking as generally they're the cheapest, here is what they had to say:

Regarding that WPI, the price is a joke. If you factor in the raw cost of the goods, the flavouring, add packaging costs, GST and ebay charges then it already exceeds the cost of the product. That hasn't even factored in costs of blending the product, running the factory and paying their staff, oh and making a profit on top of that.
That's all of course if they have their own factory, these are magnified if they use a contractor. I notice it says HACCP approved too, those factories are even more expensive to run…..

  • Sugar most likely.

  • WPI by Balance has more %/g protein over ON. Little more expensive, tasty. Just throwing it out there. Still use ON and BN.

  • Surely 5KG of WPI for $110 delivered is BS.. You can't even buy a bag of unflavoured for that price!

  • Got my samples,
I am pretty impressed, it mixed quite well, bit foamy but ah well.
Taste was decent, I will be buying some
The ebay feedback seems pretty good for this product too

Hope this help some people save some doll hairs

    • OP, even if more than a little bemused by goings on above, you may like to directly reply to wt.

I've tried, but maybe only the exciting world of 'eBay Protein' will lure her back from the 'turnip netherworld', which I assume lies just beyond OzBargain, but very, very, close to a slightly odd girl with extremely odd tastebuds.

      Ta.

    • Send them in for a free test to see what you're really getting, it's seriously too cheap to be legit.
