Who else bought a HDD from The Good Guys recently - How Was It Sent?

Im sure im not the only one to have grabbed a portable HDD from TGG during the eBay 20% off thing as they were roughly the same as Amazon pricing. Mine arrived yesterday like this:

Bottom of the box is fairly heavily crushed, and the HDD is already displaying early click of death signs. Waiting for a reply from TGG, but has anyone else received their gear in a similarly shoddy way?

  • Wow…that is not a good way to ship anything. Hope they get back to you and fix you up.

  • I ordered the 2TB portable hard drive from the same deal.
My packaging was even worse. Thin plastic express post bag, no further padding.
The cardboard box housing the hard drive has crushed corners and dents throughout. You would expect it to be a factory second, rather than a new hard drive.

    • TBH im not sure which is worse, at least the express post bag came express. Mine was just a standard post. Theoretically the plastic express post bag is more resilient than a paper bag, although at the point where the box looks like a seconds item its a bit of a moot point.

  • I ordered a 1TB hard drive last week and it came in a broken box with nothing inside it

  • Just got a phone call from Gepps Cross SA store, apparently they send out all of their items like this, and that its AusPosts fault that it was damaged despite it being underpacked.

I told the woman it was completely unacceptable, and she made some mumbling about doing better next time.

From my point of view there wont be a next time.

  • Two external hard drives I purchased from TGG were sent loose in large paper envelopes with no additional padding. Lucky it was protected in a box otherwise it would not have survived as the boxes came a bit crushed. Would have preferred to pickup from store but was told no pickup for on-line orders from eBay.

You never know how the courier treated your package or if it was sitting under other packages. Mine thankfully are all working fine.

  • I bought the 2TB drive, but sadly missed the 20% off sale by a day. Need to check OzB more often!

The package arrived in original box and securely wrapped in brown paper, tape etc, and prominently marked Fragile. So I have no complaints on that score.

However, I purchased on Monday last week. All went thru ok. Order was sent to Good Guys at Brighton, a couple of kms up the road from my house. Was picked up Tuesday afternoon. Sat at Moorabbin Distribution Centre (a couple of kms up the road from my house) for the rest of Tuesday and Wednesday morning. Finally went to Sunshine West (a million miles from my house) mid arvo Wednesday. Overnight Wednesday it came back to Clayton South (not too far from my house) and was delivered on Thursday morning.

    Can anyone believe this crap??

Aust Post whinges and whines about how tough things are. This sort of crap service is what we get when we put a banker, who has never had a real job in his life, and has absolutely no knowledge of the real world, in charge. AP needs someone with skills in logistics at the top. Logistics/delivery is their business, time they realised that, and skilled up appropriately.
