Air BNB Massive Timewasters

I needed to book last minute accommodation for someone, I searched a few sites nothing was suitable. I found the perfect one at midnight last night on airBNB and contacted the host who luckily and thankfully got back to me very quickly and has been the nicest. we agreed I went to pay:

The problem is that no-where before wasteing my time and the hosts time did they tell me the excruciating id check they put you through after they take your credit card details. you would think your credit card and matching account details was enough and the host could check your id but only after this they want you to provide them several id checks, one being social media which account which this person doesn't have - so I set one up. and the other being a copy of the id. I don't have his license and he cant do it so I rang them. that was 10am. they said they would escalate it.

im still waiting, they don't answer the calls or emails. its frustrating because he is supposed to get there at 6am and I cant confirm the booking.

does anyone know how to get around their silly checks?

Ha ha, is this a new record for the number of negs a user has accumulated in one post?

Actually, I'm kind of glad that he had a problem. So basically, he is trying to sign up someone who isn't himself. That is the exact thing that airbnb are trying to prevent you doing wit these verification checks.

From the other posts here, proof of ID seems to take 2 minutes, from a couple of you, and even when drunk :)

So yea, the fact that you were not the real person, and they wanted to verify your ID, it's a good result from their system.

Am I wrong to think this?

airBNB sucks and i wouldnt use it, but not for this reason, OP you are at fault.

  • When I read the title of this thread, I took it to mean that it is a time waster. Just a bit OT, but I recently tried to get something in NYC.

It took hours and hours and days. I had a lot of very obvious too good to be true places, but as it was my first go at it I couldn't be too sure. A lot of them tried to get me to talk off the official site and one even said that my photo "creeped him out"! Anyway I got a place with 100s of positive feedback a for 1 of my 2 weeks and will just sty in a cheap hotel for the 2 Nd week. All this was 7-8 months in advance.

So yes, it was a huge time waster, but not for the reason off the OP. It needs very strict vetting for the safety of both sides.

I'm glad you disliked it because Airbnb and other peer-to-peer communities doesn't need people like you. I hope you never use such services again.

  • This thread is making my slow word day bearable!

I am glad airbnb does these strict checks to the ensure the place is safe to stay and for owners of the place to weed out ppl like OP.

fyi I have used airbnb twice and have no complaint of the process.
