Aus Post Cash on Delivery

Edit: If you have personally used AusPost's CoD before, either as a seller or as a buyer, can you tell me how it went? Was it convenient? How quickly do you get paid? Was it safe?

I've read the Aus Post website on CoD already, it's not entirely clear, and aus post staff I talked to today was clueless.

I want to hear from someone who's actually used this service before.

  • E.g. if I sell something for $200, CoD fee is $12.25 and say postage is $8.75. I would post it, the buyer would pay Aus Post $221, and Aus Post would give me $200. Is this correct?

I wouldn't think so, I think the delivery and cash on delivery service fee would come out of the $200. You should list that item for $221.

    • The item would be sold for $200 + $21 p/h if the buyer chooses CoD instead of meeting up with me.

Anyway my question was more that, am I correct to understand that out of the $221 the buyer hands to Aus Post, Aus Post would send me $200?

That's what the aus post website suggests, but I went to an aus post branch this morning and the lady I spoke to seemed utterly confused when I asked her how "I would receive the money". ._. She seemed to be under the impression that CoD was for the receiver to pay postage fees, where as I'm pretty sure it's for the receiver to pay postage fees and pay the sender.

Just wanted confirmation of that from someone (who is not using a business account) who has actually done it.

  • Looks like they pay you by money order:

"Using Cash on Delivery is as easy as 1,2,3:

Lodge your customer's order at your nearest post office
The item will be delivered to your customer's nearest outlet and they'll be informed that they have a Cash on Delivery item waiting for collection
When they arrive to collect the item, we'll process a payment on your behalf and any remittances will be sent back to you via Money Order"
