Social Recruitment sites popping up

hi guys,

i'm a long time reader first time poster. so please be nice :)

have you heard all the hype about all these social recruitment sites coming out.

do you guys think they are worth participating in ? the whole concept works based on referring friends to jobs and you get rewards if the person is hired.

has anyone dealt with these companies, do you think they will go far.
i do actually like the idea.. i think it might work. but would love to hear your thoughts ..

  • Yeah it works. They already do this offline. In fact some top companies get up to 80% of their staff internally and or via word of mouth. Reduces their costs with ads etc. Get better quality leads.

Some of the big companies have $500 finder's bonus fee for referring a successful candidate.

So it's just digitising it to online/Internet.

Would be good as it takes the professional middle man out and they're annoying. Headhunters and staffing agencies get paid heaps for it though.

    • have you ever done it your self adamren ? gotten cash for referrals ?

      • Not online ones personally. But old school, yes.

  • +1

I'd be pretty pissed if a "friend" signed me up to one of these companies.

For every referral they make, we pay you 7.5%.

    So what's the companies cut?

Referral based recruiters are scum of the earth.

apparently these guys are just providing the platform.. they seem pretty genuine..

as long as I'm able to save for that holiday.. that's what I need.. need to make an extra grand a months to take the family on a nice holiday..

    • define "genuine"…

Don't you think there is a conflict of interest recommending people for a job you take a cut from?

Do your friends want these emails in the first place?

      • good point.. but right now. if someone referred me to a role.. which is better than my current role. or paying more.. then I'd be glad. and would consider applying.. been in the same job for 6 years now.. not looking.. but if someone offers me a better role I'd take it :)

        • but if someone offers me a better role I'd take it

          said every person, ever.

I bet you'd be hard pressed to find a role that was exactly the same, and paid more than what you currently get after your 'friend' and the recruiter took their cut (which is likely to be 20% or more)

And even if the market had changed, and there was a significant demand for your job. Wouldn't you notice this already, and found the position without a "recruiter"?

There's a rule my parents told me, never sell to friends. I think this would fall under that rule.

  • I work for a company where referrals are encouraged, and I think you'll find most big companies have some kind of referral program. It is a lot cheaper to hire within ranks or to have candidates referred in to you than to go to an agency which usually charges between 10 and 20 percent of a candidate's salary. Executive roles are at much higher agency rates.

I've also noticed that some agencies will provide gift cards or incentives for pre-existing candidates if they refer someone in who is placed with their agency.

As for these companies? Well if they can provide quality candidates then they will succeed… as long as they can get a foot in the market.

    • I think if they do.. will be great as a bonus income.. can't wait for them to have more jibs on there

  • I'm looking for a job, can someone refer me now?

    • not sure what kind of work u looking for pumpkin.. try all the new sites out there.. one shift, spotjobs they git plenty of work.. what is it u do?

      • Thanx. I tried to PM you but you dont "accept new conversations" …
