ADSL2+ Unlimited Usage Connection at Best Price?

Hello Guys,

TPG stands out when it comes to unlimited usage with ADSL2+… But recently for last 6 months the speed has been very slow and TPG wouldn't care much… Planning to move out from them to somebody else like DODO etc.,

Currently I am paying $60.00 and is there is any ISP with Decent Speed for the same price tag?

Wont the speed be limited by the DSLAMS?

IMO if you drop TPG and pick up another that shares the same DSLAM, then your speed is unlikely to be any different.

  • You'll get what you paid for, cheaper =more users = more congestion = slower download

  • Don't think TPG share their own DSLAMs with anyone else. AFAIK they don't offer unlimited packages when using Telstra DSLAMs

  • TPG is alright for me. At night there's a bit of slowdown with Youtube, but general download speeds are fine.

  • the question is not "is there a isp with decent speed for the same price tag" its , will you get better speed with another provider.
i get great speeds with tpg.

  • lahiruwan is right. If you've got adsl2+ with TPG then it's their DSLAM.
I'm with TPG (in Berwick, VIC) and speeds are good. I did have an issue some time back when my throughput dropped and it did take a while to get sorted but all ok now.
Remember, when you call up with an issue you get first line support. These guys work from scripts usually to try to resolve an issue. The ones on TPG are better than most I believe and they will work with you and will escalate your issue if need be, but they do need to do their checks first so the second and third level support don't get slammed with issues that can be sorted on the first call.
Sometimes it may come down to having to check the physical line and you may need to pay a fee for this, if it end up to be the cabling in your home that was the issue. If they're talking about this then you can be assured that all other checks and tuning havent worked.
Also remember, if you've changed your modem recently then that could be the issue. Different modems (because of different chipsets) can give very different performances.
Also, don't worry too much about connection speed - it's throughput you really need to be concerned about. There are tweaks TPG can make to get your connection very stable but it will drop your connection speed.
If by any chance you've got a Billion modem let me know. They can be be finniky with TPG DSLAMs but there are setting you can change (not highlighted in the manual though) and all will be good.
My opinion, TPG are best value for money.

  • Well I'm with TPG unlimited but the speed I get is not even close to what I got when I was with Amnet. Once I complained to them but they said my speed is pretty good for my distance. So maybe they're not slow but some ISP is definitely faster.

  • http://www.exetel.com.au/broadband/adsl bang for buck with 100g/500g/UNL + $20 line rental + call options $0/10/$20 for unlimited calls to both landline and mobile.

500gb is unlimited IMO even of streaming, abc-iview, sbsTV ect & $20 is about as cheap a landline deal as naked costs about the same as having a landline now & the call addons look pretty good to me.

    +1 no counted uploads
+1 no excess, slows to 1024mbs (which is still usable, 256mbs isnt!)
    +1 avadability

TPG, iiiNet and bigpond (logitel alt to BP exchanges, with call caps unlimited $108 per month http://www.logitel.com.au/, saves my neighbours big dollars) —- so their you go….

www.whirlpool.net.au < use this site to find the best deal; dont count uploads, decent throttle speeds and no excess… things to look for
