Eneloop Charger

Alright, I'm sure as OzBargainers we all saw the recent Dicksmith and CotD Eneloop Chocolat deal. Naturally I took advantage of this and bought a pack (sadly, the $2 delivery DS rather than free delivery CotD deal) and received them today.

Now I need a charger!
I'm happy to pay a fair bit, though only as long the performance difference is worth the extra $$$; I'm an OzBargainer after all.
Needs to be a smart charger, I don't want one of those timed ones. (heard they're bad for the batteries).
Could anyone suggest any, paired with a buy link? Preferred Australian sites if possible.

-Yes, I'm aware there is other threads similar to this. Haven't seen any advice coupled with reasonably priced purchase links. Any I Googled tend to be well over $100 on Australian sites.

  • You should have got the Sanyo Quick charger which was $39.95 including 4 batteries on COTD while they were on sale.

DSE have the same thing for $50 ($49.95 I think to be accurate)

    • How often are the CotD deals on this?
I missed the deal due to not having enough money in PayPal at the time. (Bank linked, not CC)

  • Something like this nitecore d4 http://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10001638/1752100-nitecore…

    or the superceded i4 https://www.google.com.au/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=…

I would recommend a la crosse but you probably already know that and would be out of your budget

  • Per pao's comments above, I bought one of these a few years ago based on Ozbargainers mostly highly favorable reviews:

    http://www.amazon.com/La-Crosse-Technology-Battery-Charger/d…

Only problem with it is that sometimes if an Eneloop is completely dead (ie my kid leaves an Ozbargain LED torch on for 6 weeks flat) it wont bring it back to life (about 50/50 it will if left in overnight it will review the dead eneloop), sometimes they need a "jolt" from a dumb charger for a few minutes to get some voltage back in them, then the lacrosse will take over fine.

    • What's Amazon's shipping like to Australia? Not too costly right?

On the warrenty side of things, being an international purchase (I believe?), how's Amazon with warranty claims?

Seems like a decent charger, though I'm a bit sceptical about buying from an international seller. Couldn't find the same anywhere on Amazon Australia and elsewhere AU stock is ~$20-40 more.

      • Amazon is one of the best in customer service and warranty claims. Officially to do a warranty claim you have to send it back to them. Most of the time they will send a return parcel or just replace the item outright without you even having to send it back.

    • As perviously discussed here you don't need a dumb charger to get a minimal charge in your battery

You can recharge null or no cell completely discharged batteries with your lacrosse. I use this trick on my BC-700 to charge it a little so that the charger would recognise the cell.

      from: http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2008/03/adventures-in-recha…

BC-900 will not charge a completely drained cell (display says 'null' after you insert the cell). Follow the instructions here to 'jump-start' the dead cell, so that its terminal voltage is restored to about 0.5-1 volt. Then the BC-900 will charge it:

      UNPLUG the BC-900!
Place a good cell and a 'dead' cell next to each other
Connect the (+) terminals of the two cells together with a paper clip for a few seconds
Remove connection, plug in the BC-900

I had the same problem (inserted cell, no response) tried this trick and it totally worked! Note it is the same as connecting two batteries with paper clips to give the other one a charge.

      • I've failed at trying that last time, but I might give it another go - there are many reports of that working fine

  • i'm looking for an eneloop smart charger also.

desperately want the lacrosse because of its high ratings but i'm not sure why the price has not dipped below $40USD since Feb 2014 on the price watch sites.

I'm wondering if people think there will be xmas/ny sales on amazon?

i got a whole bunch of eneloops yesterday, just need a charger!

  • Bit old but rather than make a new thread…

Looking for a AAA charger for Eneloop. I have AA already (the Apple ones. They were good value at the time, $30 for 6 inc charger). Suggestions?

  • Bumping thread.

Does anyone have recommendations for a budget AA charger that is under $20? I had a decent $13 one but I lost them T.T

    many thanks

  • Is this panasonic quick charger from amazon a good buy seeing as it comes with 4 AA for $30 delivered? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JHKSMJU

    • or maybe the powerpack version?
