eBay Fees Incorrectly Charged, Check Your Accounts?

I recently participated in EBay's Birthday "promotion":

http://sellercentre.ebay.com.au/promo/1995 (basically free insertion & final Value fees for 15 items).

I initially checked my Paypal account and no fees were charged. A month later I checked again and the fees have been charged. I initially rang customer service and they had no recollection of the promotion, and it had been removed from my inbox. I thought I was losing my mind. After a couple of solid hours of googling I found the link (attached above). Then re rang customer service & forwarded the link via email. The ladies response was "this promotion was sent in error and was later changed to 15 free listings only". I wasn't buying that, and she offered a 'goodwill gesture' and will reimburse the fees. How about 2 hrs of my time in compensation!!

So in summary, they initially deny knowledge of the promotion, then say they changed it, then hide it so hopefully no one can recall it.

Nothing dodgey about that Ebay… perhaps Pierre's multi-billion $ income isn't enough.

Poor form Ebay (not that you need any more bad publicity). If anyone participated, check your accounts.

They will try to scam you wherever they can.
I saw a promo last month free subtitle so enabled it. Without knowing it was only for the first time, when the item was not sold and re-listed I got charged $2. So be very careful whatever Ebay try to send you read carefully.
They have to find a way to pay for for those Sunday promo.

  • i was charged fees! havent even sold anything on ebay :/

    • I thought everyone gets 40 free lists per month. I don't get charge if item is not sold and re-list is free as well. Check if you were charged for thing other than listing fees like sub title etc.

  • Just start a chat with them. Got mine resolved in about 15 minutes. Even waived off the fees for an 11th item I sold
