Help with Yahoo Please

I've just received a couple of text messages with a verification code, which suggests someone is trying to change the password on my secondary email address and can't find where to access this account to change it myself. It's one of those accounts where they let us reserve the name we wanted then gave it to us when it became available, and is linked to my primary account.

Can anyone tell me where to find the info I need please?

  • Try and google it :D

Can't you just log into your secondary email and change the password from there?

Did that before I asked. :]

Do you remember the domain at all? This is a pretty difficult question if you just ask us "I don't know my email, but I want it."

If it's linked to your current email account (assuming your current one is the one you're actively using), try going to the log in page, say 'mail.google.com', and click "forgot my password". It might give you a few options, one would be "Recover using secondary email".

It should give you a clue like:

    h******[email protected]

Or something like that. Maybe that'll jog your memory??

Unfortunately, with such limited information, it's difficult to point you in the right direction.

  • AFAIK the secondary email address has the same password as the primary. I have the same setup and I cannot change it separately.

    • Yeah, that's probably the case. AFAIK it's not actually a separate mailbox, just an additional send as address.

OP, why do you write which suggests someone is trying to change the password on my secondary email address? Could they be trying to change the password on your primary email address? Maybe someone who is under the impression they have that address, maybe a typo, like com.au instead of .com, or vice versa?

I received 2 text messages stating " Your Yahoo password change verification code 12345 (obviously not the right code) for [name of secondary account] More info au.r.yahoo.com"

In going back to get the wording of this, I discovered it's from the same number that generated a 4 digit code that I needed to call ebay many months ago. As such, I'm thinking the ebay system has possibly been hacked.
