From TPG ADSL2+ to Optus Cable with 30mbps

Hi, im getting the normal optus cable broadband ($115 unlimited broadband bundle) due to my current tpg unlimited adsl2 being really slow even after calling them many times. I also play LoL (league of legends) abit and whenever there are around 10 devices being connected to the wifi, my ping goes really high (might be because other devices are downloading or streaming stuff). I normally get around 10mbps with TPG (TPG provides me with 15mbps). Since i am moving to optus cable, will i still have the same ping problem or will it be better (standard 30mbps)? Also with the speedpacks, $10 for 50mbps and $20 for 100mbps which one do you guys think is the best option? I do have quite a number of devices such as gaming consoles, ipads, computers, laptops, phones and tvs. Will getting faster speedpack be better for my ping in LoL and watching 1080p on youtube even with that many devices connected? If you guys have the optus cable with 30mbps or more, can you please tell me about you experience with LoL, youtube, steam games, torrenting e.t.c? Im from Peakhurst area in NSW.

  • 10 devices connected.
you may fair better off with cable as it is faster than adsl 2+.
but 10 devices man, all gonna depend on what they doing.

  • I'm on 100, but have previously been on 20 and that was good enough for me with many devices. I have a lot of them hard wired where possible, I prefer not to have everything competing for wireless spectrum even with 802.11AC and dual band. Everything won't be constantly downloading all at once unless you have a big family so I'd suggest just get the basic package and see what that's like, you can easily upgrade at any time if you think it isn't fast enough. It will also depend on how busy your node is and if your neighbours use is pretty low, you will get good speed. Even when I went from 20 to 100, I found web browsing took just as long, and I got killed just as often when gaming. You should still be getting pings around 10. You'll find cable far superior to ADSL anyway.

  • I dont think there is an issue with having 10 devices connected, when your ping is high like that, i doubt its to do with the downloads, but rather the upload. Unless they are all downloading at once.

Cable has a 2mpbs upload? from what i remember thats what mine was, so when someone had torrents open which were taking up all the upload(didnt take much, e.g 150kb/s), it would kill my down speeds (pretty much grind to a halt). As soon as i limited the upload speeds, i was right to go again.
