Gift for 18 year old birthday

Hi guys, I really need some ideas that aren't too typical for my boyfriend's upcoming 18th birthday. What do males like nowadays? I have been with my boyfriend for about 3 years now so the common gifts such as watches/wallet isn't as meaningful. Any ideas/gifts/places to go?? Thank you ozbargainers

  • Other than the obvious idea, you could always make him something thoughtful / meaningful for the two of you. Maybe edit a video of the two of you and play it with your fav song in the background (or something less cheesy, depending on what he likes). Maybe find a sweater that you know looks good on him, a jersey of his favourite soccer/basketball/footy player, or knit him a scarf or something.

After being with someone for a while, it's harder to get them generic gifts! You know your boyfriend better than any of us.
Does he have a job? If so, he probably will already have bought himself all the man-toys he needs.

Another chic asked this about a year ago and the underlying theme of the responses was that it should be mainly centred around stuff that money can't buy. I don't mean that in a 'tacky' way, what I mean is, the general advice was to treat him to an 'awesome/fun night', where you cook him something you know he really likes (or arrange for it to be delivered if you don't enjoy cooking), then you guys do something of 'sentimental value' together (go somewhere, stay in, whatever), or something you both enjoy, then you give him some sort of material gift (which is really not that important what it is), then you guys, well… 'hit the hay'.
Almost every guy I know would consider that a pretty awesome night.

    • This. Though you can skip the material gift altogether.

      • and just get right to the hay?

  • Food, sport related, car related, gadgets.

I buy generally stuff myself, but things that go well are something that we need.

If there's nothing, maybe a nice dinner or a voucher of some kind or go do something fun together or maybe just time off to do some blokey things.
