  • Hey guys if its from shizuoka, then I would be worried about the radiation levels of it..

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/japan/8567261…

Shizuoka Matcha was at one stage banned from shipping due to fukushima accident. Cesium has a 30 year half-life and it has only been 2 years
I would be very wary without a full in-depth radiation testing report which I believe tea leaving that province is required to do.

Hopefully he isn't selling us radioactive waste to eat :|

    • Take Taste To A Higher Level With Radioactivitea…

Thanks for that. Made for an interesting read. Digging further, it appears that Shizuoka tea should have very low radiation levels. Only the 2011 harvests exceeded standards. Also, they changed standards in 2012. Old standards had a limit of 500 Becquerels/kg, new standards reduced that to 100 Bq/kg and tea was classified as a beverage (meaning a limit of 10 Bq/kg). Reason for this was that no one was going to eat the tea in its dried form as is, instead people would generally steep their tea and therefore dilute the dosage. Further, people weren't going to go through all 1kg of the tea daily. Therefore the tea should be safe for consumption. You would probably have a higher radiation dosage for matcha since you're consuming the leaves, but should still be relatively safe.

Halfway down this page there is a conversion of radiation dosage of tea consumption

And this radiation dosage chart makes for an interesting read

edit: hmm for some reason if i pasted the direct picture link, it wouldn't show up in the comment
