Cheapest? option for Home Internet ADSL2+ and Unlimited local calls in the Deer Park Vic. exchange-No Optus service at address.

I am looking at changing ISPs, after extensively looking. Although I loked at Exetel's plan (http://www.exetel.com.au/broadband/adsl),I found I can only have their Telstra option service which goes from $19. to $29. for 100GB/month, and no option of unlimited calls. I am a low user so even 20GB is enough for me. I would really love to keep my monthly bill to under $60.00 p/month. Please help with suggestions.

  • iiNet Naked?
$59.95/m for 100gig, unlimited local calls (voip)

    • I did look at iinet, they only ioffered 20+20Gb bundle (being a Telstra line, I can only be on their offnet plans, therefore $59.90 for this. I don;t believe I can get what you suggested, but I will look again as soon as I get a chance tonight.

      • No. You're right. If you are off-net you can't get Naked. Disregard!

I have iiNet and had it for 6.5 years. Been off contract for the past 2. Their customer service is Shiite.

Have lost both internet and home at least 6 times since I have been off contract. In 3 of those instances it has required TIO intervention for them to get their arse into gear.

One of those time I was without phone and Internet fro a month.

Only reason I stay with them is because I do not want to go into another contract.

  • TPG use Telstra service

  • I am in the same boat as you (except I'm in another state), we hardly use any data and just want a 10 or 20GB / month plan on the cheap!

It kinda depends if you are ok locking yourself into a 6-24 month contract, or want to go month to month. No idea if this applies to you but I was looking at TPG's cheapest option for $40 / month but the 6 month plan has a $99 setup fee (24 month is $79): http://www.whistleout.com.au/Broadband/Providers/TPG/ADSL2-p…

@gimni has written up what he thinks is the cheapest @ spending hackers: http://spendinghacker.com.au/cheap-no-contract-broadband/ which I'll attempt to summarise
    - Belong has free install/setup + modem (until end of month) for $70 / month
    - Dodo has and get month-to-month for $60 / month.
Both of these have unlimited local calls but limited or restricted calls to mobiles/national.

I've signed up to Belong myself but so far have only paid them $1 for the modem and it's arrived already… but hasn't been set up yet because my home phone is currently with optus. If there's a better deal I might as well call up Belong before they set things up and switch to someone else, just keep the modem as a backup or use it as a doorstop, lol!

Hope this helps, will be subscribing and watching the thread for clues/tips!

    • Cheers, I did look at @gimni's spending hackers… I got all excited, unfortunately Belong although a subsidiary of Telstra, when I called them they confirmed , are not available in my area.
I called Dodo, and Im pretty sure they said they did not have an unlimited local calls option for my area (again, due to my line being on Telstra infrastructure).

  • Exetel Tesltra Wholesale $50/month for phone rental and 100Gb

  • +1

OzB forums are good for many things, but for choosing ISP, nothing beats whirlppol's Braodband Choice:

    http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/

Always the best place to find out exactly what broadband providers are available, what features they have, what the plans cost and include, etc, etc, etc. Been this way for years and years.

    • Yes, I did exhaust whirlpool information, just wantiong to know if someone had a better/good option for cheap Telstra infrastructure bundles in the Deer Park exchange. I think all Telcos have recently 'colluded' to bring their prices up!.

      • Exetel do have an unlimited calls option!
It's an extra they call Exechat, it costs $10 on top of their standard plans.

So for $60/month you get Phone rental, 100Gb and Unlimited calls to landlines.
for $70/month you get the above and Unlimited calls to Australian Mobiles.

        • scubacoles, unfortunately Exechat is not, available to my address due to being on Telstra infrastructure.

        • @RightplaceRontime:
Weird, I'm on a tophat and it gives me the option to buy Exechat…

        • @scubacoles: Type in 0393630020 (an address in the deer park exchange-not my number by the way!) and you'll see price jumps from $19. to $29… and exechat option disappears.
By the way- a friend at work recommends DODO, I think I'll bite the bullet and pull the trigger, I'll just get DODO.

  • So, RightplaceRontime, what's the outcome?
