Is It Worth Buying an Xbox One Preowned from EB Games? SOLVED

So I've been intent on buying an Xbox One preowned from EB Games for a few days but I'm now having second thoughts. Basically, at present there are no bundles that are particularly compelling to me. I really, really want Master Chief Collection day one (or at least within a week) I thought it would be a great idea to buy a preowned console for $400 and preorder Master Chief Collection from Dicksmith for $60. That would mean that it would cost me $460 altogether. That would be fantastic!

So anyway, it's not the price that's holding me back. What if I get an Xbox One that is in terrible condition? This brings me to the meat of my question: can anyone share their own experiences with buying preowned consoles for EB games and tell me if it's worth it, or if it's too much of a risk? EB games has a three month warranty on it, so I guess what I want to know is: if it works for three months after I get it, will be it be safe to assume it will continue working as normal beyond that? I'd hate to buy the console then have it malfunction after four months and essentially waste $400.

  • There is some decent deals around. Even if you got a deal and sold the games unopened it may be a better value. I wouldn't pay $400 for a 2nd hand unit

    • Fair point. I didn't consider selling the games. Haha

Thank you so much, I know what I'm going to do now. I'll just buy one of the bundles and sell the games to a friend. hopefully.

I'd still like others to answer the question though. C:

The bundle here would be a good choice. You could probably sell Unity and horizon 2 for at least $50 each so that makes the console already cheaper than the pre-owned one at EB

          Oh nice. I missed that.

I've lost interest in the Assassin's Creed series as a whole, but I do know a friend who was going to buy Unity so I'll give him a holler

        • @simuseb: Keep in mind that the two assassins creed games with this bundle are downloads and not physical. May make it harder to sell them…

        • Already found buyers for them.

        • @simuseb: Note that AC4 was amazaballs and it made the series fun again. SEA SHANTIES 4 LYF

        • Oh, I didn't sell AC4. I used the code for that game before giving the card to the Unity buyer. I figured that AC games drop in price pretty fast and I'll be able to get Unity dirt cheap next year.

  • I bought a second hand Xbox one console from my local Cash Converters for $230 with no controller (just came with power and hdmi cables). Second hand controller cost an extra $30.

    • Yeah… I don't condone Cash Converters.

    • That's so cheap, but you just got lucky, I doubt my local cash converters has one for that cheap but I'm forced to check now.

  • I'd be more worried about never seeing that copy of masterchief collection from DSE.

    • Wanna explain?

      • some people have problems with DS, and they get the runaround when they contact them touch wood

  • Unfortunately the deals lately are really bad. The best deal was probably the $599 JBHIFI bundle. You could easily have sold all the games included for $50-$60 each. I would still wait for a deal. $400 for preowned seems kinda expensive when new RRP is $499.

  • Do you have to have it right away? If not…I'd be waiting for better sales..Christmas is coming up and there is bound to something instead of buying a 2nd hand console.

What's wrong with cash converters? Don't you get a 90 day warranty with them too?
I bought mine from them for $325 with Kinect.

If you're happy to be buying what are likely stolen goods from people, then go right ahead.

      • That is an amazing price

Lol. No thanks. I got Unity, Blag Flag, Forza Horizon 2, Kinect, + Xbox One for $430… lol

(I also got a surprise bonus: Dance Central Spotlight, which is normally $10)

      • Where did you get this deal?

  • You can get a brand new 500GB XB1 with the lego movie game from target for $399.
