  • Soon to be known as Microsoft Lumia Maps !

Anyway, 'here maps' are the best thing that ever happened to Windows Phone.
The most useful app on the whole phone when I had my Lumia 820 !

No, Nokia still exist in the Here maps and Mobile technologies (phone towers etc) divisons. These weren't sold to Microsoft

  • ahh I forgot about this, thanks!

    • impressive, even inside on my computer chair, the location arrow will point exactly where I am pointing. (yes i know google maps etc do this, but this seems much smoother and more accurate)

  • why they separate between samsung galaxy devices and android?

    • Even though I've got a Samsung phone I went with the android version as it seemed to be the same but without having to install the Samsung app store.

It's not hard to read the description in the link..

"With a Samsung Galaxy phone, you can also share walking and public transit routes directly to your Samsung Gear, so with just a glance you'll know where to go next."

Not a deal, they are always free.

    • +4

      maybe some people didn't know?

    • A comment would have sufficed but no you had to neg.

      • Well that makes it not a deal officially:

"In general, software, apps and e-books that are always free should be posted in the forums, but if something that's not usually free is offered free for a limited time, it qualifies as a deal."

Why don't they put it back on the Play Store?

    • Why was it taken down?

  • Out of curiosity, how much is it usually?

    • as much as your next roaming data bill is

      • +3

which should be nothing, because this uses offline maps.

        • +1

          my point exactly

  • +1

not gonna neg but yeah…here I'm sitting with my 930 wishing Google release maps for WP lols :))

    • I agree, Here Maps is better then Apple maps, but google maps is the only app that I miss after switching from iPhone

      • +1

You might be disappointed with the most recent google map updates, I think they have taken a few steps backwards from say a year ago but I luckily keep old versions :)

The day that Google pulls its head out of its own arse is the day you will see it on WP.

Since the start Google has been going out of its way to screw over MS with WP. The guys at MS have been actively trying to get the Google apps onto the WP store but Google puts unrealistic expectations in place so that we will never see them.
It is so pathetic that Google even issues take down notices to 3rd party app devs that are trying to bring some of the Google services to WP because Google won't.

TL;DR - Google is a bitter company with ulterior motives.

  • Here maps is so good on my Microsoft Lumia 1320. Offline access to everywhere!

    Permissions required are:

your location (approximate network based location, mock location sources for testing, precise GPS location

    network communication (full network access)

your personal information (read call log, read your contacts, read your own contact card

storage (modify or delete the contents of your USB storage)

phone calls (read phone status and identity)

services that cost you money (send SMS messages)

system tools (change network connectivity, prevent phone from sleeping)

network communication (view network connections, view WIFI connections)

I don't like that personal information permissions :/

    • +1

It is a google maps competitor and replacement, it would have just as many permissions as Google Maps.

    • +1

so just like every android app?

    • The above is a copy of the permissions listed upon install, don't matter how much you cry or neg it wont change them, losers :)

  • thanks so much been looking for a offline gps for a while now

  • Very impressive navigation. Found it a week ago. Finally a (free) replacement for google maps.

  • +2

I'm certainly impressed by the simplicity and the features… Over whelming experience so far… Few key points observed

    • Offline navigation
    • Street Speed limits
    • Speed limit exceed warnings
    • Quick root recalculation

Would have been perfect if it had the alert for School Zones. Let's hope that it would be available with the final release…

  • This is great, did u people only download the australian map? Would it be better to download all of them incase its not free in the future or is that hardly unlikely? I like the hifi voice assisstance, this is a really good software, biggest plus is its offline

  • +1

I use Here maps on my Lumia 920.
I find the app very accurate and easy to use, the offline maps were really handy on a trip over to Malaysia and Singapore as well.
