Suspected Fake Pair of Yamaha EPH-100 from West Coast Hi Fi

Hi everyone, I just bought a pair of the yahama eph-100 2 weeks ago. Right out of the box, they doesn't sound like an $120 earphones at all so i thought it need time to improve by burning in.
2 weeks past and the earphones reached 100 hours burning in. Yes it does sound better but just a bit. Comparing to my GR07 and Apple earphones it still like night and day and doesn't sound like what the HeadFier wrote about it (http://www.head-fi.org/products/yamaha-eph-100sl-inner-ear-h…).
From this thread: http://www.head-fi.org/t/577712/yamaha-eph-100/3525 , i feel like i just bought a fake one.
I wonder anyone got this earphones from the West Coast Hi Fi and how do them sound like? And anyone here got an authentic one so i can have a listen to? Will appreciate that a lot :).
Sr for my bad English (i'm an international student :D)

  • Judging from the Yamaha Australia's Dealer locator… they should be real… You sure it's not just buyer's remorse and over hyping?

    http://au.yamaha.com/en/dealers/

Searched WA and the Midland store comes up

    • Perfect cover for a dealer that also sells the fake products.

Would not be the first, 100th, or last case of this dodgy practise. Think about that.

      • Well the other thing for OP to do would be to approach Yamaha's CS and see if they can provide some ways to authenticate the item.

  • +1

They're worse than your Apple earphones?

Definitely take them back if they are.

    1. $120 earphones is nothing, perhaps your expectations are too high.
    2. Whilst Head-Fi is useful for discussion, user impressions will always be bias on taste and equipment used to drive them.
    3. Makes sure those Ear flanges are well sealed in your ear.
    • yeah, i know $120 is nothing but i just expect it to sound better than the apple earphones. I use an iphone 6 plus to drive all headphones i have (yamaha pro 400, sennheiser hd558, audio technica m50x, vsonic gr07 and the CX980) and all of them sound quite nice but this one just only beats the CX980 :(

  • $120 is peanuts for hifi.

Expect a nice box and trash product at this price point.
