      sound stage is setup for larger TV's… so provided you got a decent size screen, this will definitely suit as a replacement to an older home stereo. What you running atm?

    no hdmi, hence no cec and no support for uncompressed audio (newer bluray formats)

      why you need hdmi? this is just a soundbar……optical cable to tv should do it.

        The optical interface doesn't support uncompressed audio (uncompressed Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD. But as you said, with a sound bar that would be hard to notice any improvement in sound quality.

        Google CEC/ARC,it allows your TV to power off receiver & control sound through the TV remote with just the HDMI.

        I need a good pass through sound bar, want to continue using my receiver.

    The reviews are impressive and at this price it is a bargain. Don't think that you'd find a better sound bar for the price. So I've bought one. I can also see a use for it as a long, but portable, music or sound device outside, or to take to another venue instead of lugging 5 or 6 speakers including a heavy subwoofer, where 120 watts is a sufficient sound level.     Created an account to be able to post on this :). I got one of these a couple months ago when DS had it for 188. It is a fantastic bit of kit. I got it as I was sick of turning the volume up and down due to action being loud and conversations being too quiet. This does a great job of fixing this, and sounds really good to boot. I have it connected via optical out and you can program the soundbar so that it responds to your TV remote. I can turn it on and adjust the volume without touching the remote that comes with it. The only issue I have with this is that the TV keeps telling me that I have setup an external audio source and I cannot adjust the volume. Not a huge issue though.Would definitely recommend if you are chasing a simple replacement for your tv speakers!

    I just bought a Sony KD55X9000B TV, which comes with front facing speakers that provide pretty decent sound. Will this soundbar be an improvement on the built in speakers?

      Bought one! At this price, it is pretty good! Also used the BDAY code to get $8 off.

      I plan to use the TV speakers for watching TV, and the soundbar for blu-rays.
