Organic sheets? Good lord. And I thought the organic food craze was silly.

They're 250 thread count. Which means very low quality. Meh.

EDIT Learn more about thread count bollocks speak. And see if you can find P&T's Bullsh!t episode about organic farming, while you're at it…

    • And I thought the organic food craze was silly.

Organic is a bit of a funny thing.

Just because something is organic does not mean is is pesticide free (contrary to popular thought), organic pesticides are carbon based (ie, non synthetic). This means the pesticides are made from hydrocarbons.

The funny thing is that hydrocarbon pesticides have been replaced in the non organic world by more modern synthetic pesticides because the old hydrocarbon pesticides are not as safe for human consumption and have greater adverse effects on the environment.

And then organic products can only use natural fertiliser aka manure (yum)

Not to mention even if organic farming was better for you and produced better food (which it isnt and doesnt) we could only feed around 40% of the population with completley organic farming.

      • Hey, you hunted down the P&TBS episode! :)

Don't forget that all that manure would mean we'd have to up our manure-producing capacity, which would mean the biggest source of CO2 in our atmosphere would have to be kicked into overdrive…

        • I have watched Penn and Tellers show however that didn't shape the way i thought about organic foods.

You need to take their show with a grain of salt on some matters.
For example both of them are members of the Cato institute, basically a lobby group who do not see climate change as happening (The group is also funded by big oil and tobacco companies).

Even though they labelled "Environmental hysteria" as BS Penn has later said that he "doesnt know" if climate change is happening despite more or less saying we were not having an impact on the climate during the episode.
They also said that recycling paper is no better than getting paper from trees however recycling paper uses around 50% less water and emits about 70% less air pollution.

          • @anthony: Oh, I know it's an entertainment show, and I have no idol worship issues. The great thing about being a fan of that program is that it means you're naturally going to be questioning. And I do question many of their opinions and a lot of what they say is poorly thought out and frankly, just entertainment.

      • I am pretty sure i can comment about product, not just if it is good/bad.

I am not being negative, if you want to buy organic then go ahead im not trying to stop you.

If it was a "hippy speech" then i would have been Pro organic.
People think organic = pesticide free therefore it is better, i was trying to explain that organic != better

  • That being said, 250TC on topbuy: http://www.topbuy.com.au/tbcart/pc/search-250TC.htm

Same price, albeit with an extra $2 on shipping… but if you get more than one set, it's cheaper at TopBuy.

    So… not a bargain.

  • I just learnt something again, thank you Ozbargain :)
