Need advice buying a phablet

Hope you can give advice before I sprout anymore grey hair. I have an iphone 4 and a samsung galaxy note 10.1 (I use this to surf the internet and download kindle books - can't resist all those free books).
I am looking at getting a new phone (buy outright) and would like to get one at least 5.5 inches or bigger so I can read books on it. I hardly make any phone calls or send many texts and don't keep my phone in my pocket so the bigger size is no problem.
Would prefer to keep under the $500 mark. Have picked out the following -
Sony experia T2 ultra
HTC Desire 816
Nokia Lumia 1520

Would appreciate any comments on these and any thoughts on any I have missed. Samsung galaxy note 3 seems to have good reviews but not sure if its in my price range.

So what is the issue of having two devices. Paying a lot for a phone which you hardly use?

A simple phone, or keeping the one you have and going for a mini tablet maybe a cheaper way of doing things.

Book reading and surfing the internet dont require very powerful units.

But more info from you would help. Are you using internet while travelling or at home?

Yes you are right. Would be better off keeping my iphone and buying a cheap 7 inch tablet to throw in my bag. Also had the same suggestion from a work mate. Thanks for your help

      • I'd go the Note 3 as per ozhunter suggestion above. I rather carry just the one device. In my situation, I carry a bulky Samsung S4 zoom, having two children growing up, it's good to have a decent camera around with proper zoom (optical). I rarely take out my good ol' Pentax SLR.

  • Also the HTC One Max is fairly cheap now, and would be plenty enough for your usage.
The cheapest one is just below $400 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BRAND-NEW-HTC-One-max-803s-4G-LTEā€¦
