Pebble Steel/New Pebble or Moto 360?

I'm looking for a smartwatch and was wondering what everyone's take on it was. As for the other smart watches not listed.. I own a Oneplus one so pretty much all the Samsung watches are out of the question, had a bad history with LG products (Never been happy with them) and the two that really stand out to me is the Pebble or the Moto 360.

Due to the Pebbles battery life, the support from the Pebble company to keep this device at its peak.

Moto 360s' design looks amazing, and soon to be metal band.

What do people think between the Pebble Steel/New Pebble (To be released Q1 2015) in other words Pebble in general or the Moto 360?

Anyone that owns either of the two pros and cons?

And which one should i opt for? Pebble Steel, wait for the new Pebble or get the Moto 360.

Thanks!

  • Wait for the V2 Pebble updated with WebOS to come out. I like the Pebble, but the interface is pretty clumsy and it does take a while to get where you want to go using just the hardware buttons.

  • Bought a Pebble, but it can't handle simple Whatsapp notifications on Android (works fine on iOS).
Also on Android, you can't clear notifications from the watch, you can with iOS.
Other than that, it's great! :)

    • Lucky i don't use Whatsapp :)

Can it deal with Facebook notifications?

I'm just gonna assume they will patch that in for Android sooner or later

    • do you use Notification Center app? works fine here.

You can clear notification history (not one by one tho)

  • despite your distaste for lg check out lg g watch r best smart watch for 2014.

    • Ive had a look at it circular design is a plus but that's all it has going for it to me.

      Thanks for your suggestion though

  • I've had a Pebble since they released from Kickstarter and LOVE it. The software keeps getting better and better. Rock solid reliable now (bit iffy initially). Never a problem - just works.

Love the fact I don't have to take it off either for shower/swimming pool use. I have to charge mine every 3 days or so though. The 7 days quoted must be in optimal conditions.

  • Android smartwatches are arguably still beta products… At best Version 1.0 stage with the Moto 360.
Battery life is a huge concern (the fact they barely last a day with a brand new battery is a worry - what's the battery life going to be in a year's time?)
And features are still being determined.

Pebble has decent battery life and software is at least a few years old, so fairly mature.

I think Android Wear will surpass Pebble in the coming 12-18 months, but even then, wouldn't consider buying one until at least Gen 3 hardware comes out when the feature set has started to settle a bit and they've hopefully got battery life into the 2-3 day range.

  • So people think pebble is the way to go for now. Until android wear gets up to speed? Then upgrade to that?

So now what's left is to get pebble steel? Or wait for the new pebble?

I'm assuming when the new pebble is out the steel will drop in price?

    • I bought the original pebble a few weeks ago for the battery life and price (paid $139 and claimed $39 this week on price protection). A friend of mine uses his lg every two days because he forget to charge at night. flat battery in the morning.

if you happy waiting for the new pebble and don't mind $250/350 price range then wait.

pebble steel is on sale at $229 at dicksmith at the moment: http://www.dicksmith.com.au/health-fitness/pebble-steel-smar…

      • Seems like pebble is the way to go then from what I have gathered.

$229 is a discounted price? What is the original price?

I will most likely wait to see what the new pebble looks like and then make my decision to get the new pebble or pebble steel.

        Thanks for all your input!

        • $269 a week ago

        • @aldoducoOh i see. And it looks like DSE is the place to buy it. Everywhere else only it only comes with the leather band.

  • Lucky enough there is a promotion off watches from Amazon for 75% off.

Seeing if the Pebble comes meets this criteria and if so will most likely purchase it from there.

    http://www.amazon.com/b/ref=SND_CCwatch75?_encoding=UTF8&nod…

It would make the watch under $100!

A steal for the Steel ;)

  • Just bought the Pebble Steel 20% off from Amazon!

I would like to thank everyone for their comments and help.
