110

Went over to Auburn's Aldi to pick up some long grain rice only to have noticed the clearance signs above the motorcycle gear, there pretty good quality. There cheap as heck so if your looking for a replacement, a second helmet or a helmet for player two Aldi's clearance range is pretty epic.
Now I own rice and a new helmet, cheerin.

Not sure if all aldi's stock the motorcycling stuff, Auburn does tho.

  • I guess this is a hint on what may be part of the Aldi (up to) 50% off sale starting tomorrow.

    • yeah it's just a clearance of leftover stock from past sales.

FYI - They had the motorbike stuff on sale at the Macquarie Centre Aldi as well.

Reminds me of a funny story from when Aldi first started getting motorbike helmets:

My mate was waiting in line with the bogans for the store to open to grab one, a guy in front had a large flatbed trolley everyone assumed was for a fridge, washer or something else big. As soon as the store opened, this guy bolts in & goes straight to the helmets, then puts them all on his trolley, every last bit of helmet stock, like 20+ or something…my mate blew up, goes over to this Broden's trolley, finds the size/colour he wanted, looks the guy (who is boggle-eyed & slack jawed at this point) square in the eye & tells him not to be a greedy prick, and proceeds to take the helmet.

Now, here's the fun part…all of the other shoppers spot this & swoop in, grabbing their own as well…poor old Broden only ended up getting about 3 by all reports.

    • i dont get it

you cant resell aldi helmets anyway, people would just buy it directly from aldi

Yeah, TBH I'm not 100% sure what the bloke's game was.

My mate reckoned maybe he may have had a riding school or a bike shop, & was gonna value-add the helmets or even resell directly to unsuspecting punters at a significant mark-up…either way, it was a total dick move at a time when stocks were seriously limited, & great to see the greedy fool get his comeuppance!

    • The joke would've been on Broden anyway. Aldi helmets are a wierd shape, the distance from the top of the helmet to the bottom is short, so that your jaw ends up at or below the bottom line of the helmet. Aldi helmets don't sell very well 'cos they don't fit very well!

Different people have different shaped heads, and finding which brand of head you have is one of the first steps in taking up motorcycling. I'm lucky, my head is HJC shaped (helmets are relatively cheap) but I have a friend who can't wear anything but an Arai helmet, so she pays a fortune for her helmets.

The fact that folks have different shaped heads means that Aldi were only ever going to be able to sell their single 'brand' of helmet to about 20%-25% of people who want to buy a helmet, and then after you weed out the folks who wouldn't buy a really cheap helmet anyway, you've got a very small market indeed.

      • Really, I had no idea…I always assumed they'd be fairly standard…there you go, I've learned something new for the day, cheers! ;)

  • When does this 50% sale start? Today?

When is Aldi coming to WA. Really lonely here without Aldi, Costco, etc ….

    • If ever, far too late.

    • You're not missing much, if you just buy all the cheap crap at Coles and Woolies it's like shopping at Aldi.

  • ALDI Europe wins prizes for some of its speciality goods (even beating the big quality stores and Heston at times) but unfortunately we get little of that. They source "locally" as much as possible (ANZ, a good thing) but where the local product is inferior it would be nice to have the choice, particularly at Xmas.

  • all sold up up wollongong way which sucks because i want a new helmet given my visor just broke.

  • No helmets left at Burwood 1 (Vic) Aldi, but did pickup some base-layers for ~$6 ea. They had a few other random bike related bits-and-pieces.
