Where Can I Buy Cheap Oil Paintings?

Hi,

I'm looking for some fairly cheap abstract oil paintings. My only issue is that it needs to be fairly large.. about 55" (~125cm x ~75cm).

Anybody know where to look? I've tried looking on AliExpress but haven't been able to match the above size requirements, they're usually much smaller than what I'm after.

If anybody has any suggestions it would be very appreciated.

Thanks.

  • Bali?

    • Is there any online websites for this? Otherwise flying to Bali negates the 'cheap' element I'm after :p

  • I can help you find it from Chinese Ebay Taobao, what's your budget.

    • Hello, I don't want to spend more than about $60-$70.

  • Ive got some cheap oil paintings from ebay. They paint them in China and send them over in a post-tube, and you just need to make a frame from some timber from Bunnings.

Biggest ive bought is about 180cm x 60cm.

  • Hit me up and ill paint you something that size

  • +1

Slightly OT @autopumpkin and @tissue, but what sorts of paintings did you purchase?

I've always wanted to recreate the secret room in this blog post (about halfway down) which features an oil painting from China.

  • I've bought Chinese paintings from Ebay. The ones I got were spectacular for the price.

Best option I know, if you know someone in PNG. All over Port Moresby people sell huge original canvases by the side of the road. If you know someone who knows someone in PNG, get them to take some photos and act as a buyer for you.

  • I am not sure about the size, but they have good collections:-

  • My uncle in China is a professional oil painter. I can ask him for some pricing if you'd like?

  • GUMTREE BRAH

but $60-$70 probably wont buy you much…

  • I don't know about abstracts, but I've found some nice landscapes in op shops over the years.

  • I think instead of looking for cheap paintings in china or elsewhere, one should buy paintings from an artist locally and suuport them, also we should truly appreciate their art and pay them a decent price for their time. Most of the artist are very humble and usually come down on their price if they find appreciation for their work. I am sure we all love art and we all appreciate things. I am not "for" paying very high prices, but the money matter can always be negotiated for the perfect art piece.

    • All the sales people there claim to be (student) artists, while the real work is done in dim factories in the interior :)

    • I agree, but I'm not sure how they would feel about me cutting the painting in half, which is what I plan to do for my application.

  • As an update, I found a nice painting on DX but the size was really small for me (40 x 40). I researched and found out the DX supplier has an account on AliExpress, and I contacted them for custom sizing. They were happy to do so.

At the end, the painting will be something like 140cm x 80cm and it costs about $65 inc postage.
