Website Setup 101

I've recently started a small business, in kids clothing and toys and sales are increasing at a steady rate. At the moment I'm selling on ebay, gumtree, facebook page and at the local markets, but I'm looking at starting a website. I have no clue as to what's involved and where to start really.

A quick search on Ozb brought up a good list of places to get a .com.au domain. But as to designing a website with purchasing abilities and the costs involved, I'm unsure . I would love to have one up and running in the next couple of weeks, as christmas is approaching and would be a great selling opportunity.

Any advice on where to start and the easiest way to accomplish this?

TIA

  • If you have the time, you can always make a website yourself using WordPress. (Just buy web hosting and spend 10 seconds to install WordPress)
Otherwise you can hire a web developer, but then that would usually require you to spend around 1K or more if you hire locally here in Australia.

  • Stay away from CrazyDomains!!

  • there is a few eCommerce applications you can use to setup online store websites, i find them kinda hard to understand and setup properly (usualy spending hours and hours searching google for answers), i was looking into already made eCommerce websites like http://www.shopify.com.au/ or http://www.shopio.com/ (i have not used either of these websites myself though)
