Job Interview Today. I Need Your Help

I have a job interview today. and I am keen on getting this job. However I am growing my moustache (movember). Can I go to an interview with a moustache? or should I get rid of it?

  • depends on job.
explain that you are not just jumping on the bandwagon, but are really committed to supporting men's health issues.

I am committed. I try to raise much money for them. I myself donate money.

  • Some employers would prefer you to be clean shaven so it would help not having a half grown moustache

Apologise for it first thing - say why it's there - that you're usually clean shaven - then move on.

Sounds like you have the perfect icebreaker right there. Use the stache to your advantage.

Agreed. A little self deprecating humour is good.

  • I would talk about how you're raising money for a good cause, and how much it means to you. But you would be willing to sacrifice it if necessary

I went for a second round job interview 5 minutes after I had been sprayed in shit from a sheep carrying truck (Because I drive a motorcycle). I apologised and sat slightly away from the interviewers. Got the job.

    Definitely a good icebreaker.

I heard an Indian guy on the radio this morning who rang the Hotel he was applying after getting into a car accident / road rage incident with some (profanity) on his way to the interview.

The interview was with the guy who ran into him.

      He got the job

  • I would consider it a risk not worth taking myself unless you are really committed to Mo-vember

With the way most companies are hring these days with diversity, having something out of the norm is probably going to help you. Showing you care about the cause and that your willing to put aside the fact you may look stupid with the Mo and still go to an interview would speak to your intergity alot more then an words.
Rock the Mo and wear it with pride.

  • Good luck OP!

    Where is the bikies option?

  • Demonstrates commitment and a community spirit. Go with it and be proud of it.
If someone did not hire you just because you are participating in moevember it would be a bit pathetic.

  • I think it is an opportunity to talk with them about the culture of the organisation/company.
Lots of places have a Friday where there is a Morning Tea once a month to raise money for a Charity or cause.
You might find that other people there are already participating.

Good Luck with the interview and the whole moustache thing, Mo power to you!

  • yeah check their website, see what they stand for
some company's love this charity stuff and u can play right into it

    for example, http://www.suncorp.com.au/corporate/community

suncorp, big on volunteering, community, etc, great way to to start on conversation, supporting movember, and I know suncorp is big in this area in regards to community, volunteering etc

Is the interview at a trendy cafe or restaurant?

If so keep the moustache - they will appreciate hipster facial hair

    • Make sure you do some research on grooming standards first, different workplaces, different rules.

If you work in hospitality and you are customer facing (waiter, barista, bartender, casino dealer and so on) most people would want you clean shaven or sporting neatly trimmed moustaches. But preferably none at all.

Or if you work with children

I'm sure he will have mo issues.

  • how did it go?

  • How did the interview go?

The interview went good. I'm now waiting for a response.. Hoping for the best :)

  • Good luck with the interview. If you explain the reason for growing your moustache - as a charity giving benefit - they should realize your commitment to all aspects of your life - especially in your career & jump at the opportunity of employing you. Please let us know the outcome. Sorry this post has been sent late - the joy of living in Perth with time differences!

  • the Mo should be cool as long as you're a guy. (the world is still pretty small minded)
