I Have a Tiger Air Flight That Is Going to Go to Waste - Can Somebody Else Use It without Paying for a Name Change?

Hi guys,

I purchased a return flight for a few weeks time on the tiger air network, it was for my father but he is no longer able to make the flight so I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with giving a flight to somebody else without paying for a name change?

I was just planning on them using web check in and rocking up at the gate before the flight with the online check in slip printed out.

Will he get ID'ed even though he has a boarding pass?
Also, the flight was booked for someone who is 50, the person that would be flying is 20, will their date of birth come up on the screen when they go to board the flight?

If anyone has had any recent experience with this it would be greatly appreciated, cheers~

should be doable for domestic flights.

  • I have been required to show drivers licence on domestic tiger. YMMV.

Or try what this guy did….

I wish you all the best in your situation, though I do hope Tiger checks all IDs before boarding for security purposes, otherwise this would be a huge oversight.

    • have you ever been on a domestic flight?? my id has not been checked on any domestic flight i have ever taken. been on 3 with virgin this year.
i used to have a friend book my flight so i could use the lounge with his pass.

      • I once went to catch a flight in Tamworth. It was at about 6:30 PM. The security screening only operates during business hours, so instead of staff there was friendly sign that told us to just go around the apparatus.

        • Flights from Mildura used to have no security (could possibly still be the same deal), so passengers were screened after landing in Melbourne before they were let into the 'clean' parts of the airport to mingle with others.

  • Out of curiousity, how much is it usually for a name change?

    • I believe its about $80 + the difference in the cost of the flight.. so it would be cheaper to buy a new flight than to change the name..

  • Tiger is not alone in this.

Qantas and Jetstar also charge $80.

They will ask for photo ID.

They will ask for photo ID.

Not in my experience for domestic flights.

They will ask for ID if you check in @ the airport.
But from my experience, they don't if you check in online beforehand, and this is me having flown Tiger about 10 times this year.

Haven't flown Tiger, so not sure what their procedure on ID is, but you'd probably be right on the other carriers if you check in first.

Just be a little more subtle than the time the Chaser booked themselves on flights under different names.

  • As long as you don't do a counter check in they probably won't ask, but I probably wouldn't risk having to lay for a flight home if you get caught out on the return.

    • Yeah thats what im worried about lol

I dont doubt that he wouldnt get ID'ed on any other airline but I dont know about tiger as they are quite a bunch of tight arses.

Depends on the day, airport, airline, security status, phase of the moon and dog-knows what else. I've been on a few domestic flights (not Tiger though) where they required passengers to present ID at the gate when boarding the plane. Same flight a week later and they let everyone walk onto the plane without any issues.

  • They can ask for photo ID. However, I have taken at least 12 domestic flights in the last 18 months, always checked in online, and never had my ID checked. This was with a mix of Virgin, Jetstar, and Tiger.
