Best Heaphones for Gymming/Running? (Price Range: < $150)

Hello fellow OzBargainers!

I've been doing countless hours of research on headphones/earphones that are built for an active lifestyle. I've come across some amazing ones, such as the Jaybird Bluebud X's. They are on the pricier side and the inconsistent reviews (Questionable durability - number of customers claimed that the earphones died after a couple of months) have me sitting on the fence about purchasing them.

There are others that I've been looking at in which I have included in a Massdrop Poll to see what others think!

If you have purchased a pair of Jaybird Bluebud X's, I'd love to hear what you think? Or simply have any recommendations! That would be great! (:

Thanks guys!

I am using Meelectronics (in-ear) for gym use and have found them pretty durable. For casual use, I use UE900. Would not use an expensive earphone for gym.

    • I'm liking these bluetooth alternatives for just under a third of the price, might consider purchasing a pair of these. The rectangular earpiece themselves look a tad bit chunky though, any chance you could provide some dimensions it? Thanks Francis!

I run a lot and also have a lot of headphones. Whilst running I find the in-ear type uncomfortable and annoying, esp when I start sweating, so don't like them

    My 2 favorites are

    Bose IE2

at $120+ they are expensive (you can get much better sounding earphones for the price) but are incredible comfortable for running, and stay in well. Genuine refurbished ones pop up on ebay every now and then for around $40, which are good value.

    Sennheiser MX75 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-MX75-Twist-To-Fit-In-Ear-…

I don't think they make these anymore, but you can still buy them. It's a pity because they sound better than their other sport tones IMO
Great sound for the price and also stay in well, although not as well as the Bose. The uneven cable length is annoying.

    • Yerh I've never really enjoyed in-ears either, but it's been a while since I've tried them. Although I've heard that they're great from an active lifestyle though, that's why I thought I'd give them another go.

Bose IE2 are definitely one of the options that I am currently looking at as well. But then again an extra $5/10 for the JB Bluebud X, find the bluetooth wireless connectivity really appealing.

Interesting choice the MX75's - might go JB Hi-Fi to check out the MX75's and IE2's!

Great review , thanks mate! (:

+1 for the MX75. The cable on mine deteriorated after a couple of years so now I use these ones: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-CXL400-Isolating-Lanyard-…

The lanyard is great to stop the earphones from pulling on your ears and popping out on a long run.

  • I have a pair of Jaybird Bluebuds X. I love them, can't see myself going back to wired earphones for working out.

Comfort wise, they do take a bit of getting used to, but once you get the hang on putting it on and adjusting it, it becomes second nature.

Sound wise, they're quite decent, and they do a good job @ shutting off outside noise.

My rule of thumb with every bluetooth headset is always make sure you have a cheapish decent wired earphones as back up. As there will always be times when you need your bluetooth one, but it's out of battery.

    • Thanks for the advice! Also came across Comply Foam Tips which helps the JB Bluebuds X fit have a better fit:

How long have you had them for?

      • I've had them for more than 6 months now. I use them 4-5 times a week, so they do get used pretty often.

I've been using them with Comply Tips for about 1 month, after I lost one side of the original tip and had to replace it. The Comply Tips are slightly more comfortable, but not by a significant amount in my opinion.

I use the Jaybird freedoms and I have never had any problems with them in the past 2 odd years of owning them.
They get used for about an hour 3 times a week, I charge them every fortnight just to be sure they don't run out when I am at the gym but I would never go back to a wired pair after using Bluetooth.

They are not the most comfortable headphones and I did find that they tend to slip out of the ear but the ear hook things that they supply in the box helped that problem.

2 Years? Wow, very impressive! Reviews like these make me just want to go ahead and purchase a pair of JayBirds. Seems like a hit and miss with the Bluebud X's unfortunately, don't want to fork out that much just to get them sent back to them (extra shipment costs to Jaybird HQ in California) to get a replacement pair.

      Thanks!

I used to have some soundmagic e30 that had earhooks, they were pretty decent with a nice warm dynamic sound. about $30 online. I just ordered some ostry kco6a with the earhooks that are supposed to be awesome but I haven't received them yet.

    • Wow, E30's cheap ! Although the Ostry Kc06a look damn sexy, could you kindly send a lil review over when you do receive these? I would be very grateful! Thanks! (:

      • awesome. they are one sale again. if you want to read some reviews go to head-fi

they are all awesome headphones. i wish i still had my e30s but i think the ostry will soon be my new favourites

        • Committed! Thank you! (: Oh I was also wondering how well the ear tips fit on these? Would you recommend purchasing a pair of foam tips
          ?

        • @meeechull: I haven't read of any that fit yet. but I am interested myself. as you can go past a set of comply foam tips

  • I just bought a pair of these, and they are perfect. I was sick of earphones popping out and feeling uncomnfortable.

    http://www.syntricate.com.au/plantronics-backbeat-fit-headse…

I bought mine from Officeworks. There has been no dropouts, and they announce battery status when you turn it on. Pairs quickly all the time. no complaints

    • Also looking at these too! (: Thanks, might drop by office works to have a look myself! Cheers!
