Who Do You Host Your Website With?

Hi guys,

It'd be great to find out who you host your websites with and if you reckon they're any good.

I currently have a few websites hosted with a few different hosting providers. I'm not impressed with their speed compared to US providers, but would like to keep business & server locations within Australia.

So, it would be great to share:

1) Who you have your website hosted with
2) Would you recommend them, if so, why? Are they fast?

Note: My hosted websites are client managed wordpress sites

    A few suggestions have been made on OzB in the past. One full thread is here with a range of recommendations. I've excerpted parts of my 2c from there below.

    …anyone but Melbourne IT and GoDaddy. Seriously. Anyone. I've used Serversaurus for going on 5 years and can't recommend them enough. Over this period I've had a personal site, a uni club Wordpress install, and a quite a few domain names, and I've transferred all of my services with other registrars across. They've been very responsive to support requests and solving minor migration issues and I've always got the impression they were responding to things based off their own knowledge and intuition rather than just reading back a script.

    While others might well be cheaper, it was important to me that they were Melbourne based and carbon-offsetting. Their Wordpress setup is simple, but I can't claim to have used their email services (I've used both gApps and Fastmail - the latter is worth a look if you can deal with a separate provider).

    If your looking for a faster website you should really optimise and compress your .css and .js files within WordPress especially if using a theme. My recommendation is also looking for dedicated hosting and look at content delivery like Cloudflare, Amazon to increase the speed more by leveraging your pages.

    I use mddhosting, rackspace and softlayer.
    All are good and fast for me.

    ventra and zuver mainly
    have to use MelbIT for work, but avoid them like the plague otherwise
