Has anyone been to the White X'mas event of Movie World on Gold Coast?

Hi,
My 5yo keeps bugging me on wanting to see the real snow. God helps us why doesn't it snow in QLD? LOL
Now I just received an email from Movie World about their annual White X'mas event. The ticket for each person is not cheap, so I'm wondering if anyone here has been to previous ones? Could you see real snow? Would there be enough for the kids to play or even just touch? Do you think a 5yo and a 2yo would enjoy the overall event?

P.S. We went to the Carnival night a few months ago, and it was a total mess to me. So crowded and not much to see. Each food stand had a huge line. We ended up leaving only after an hour.

Any insight is appreciated. :)

  • I have been. Not real snow but that effect - it is just sprinkling down from the roof so it falls on you but not enough to be playing in IMHO. As with Carnival it will be very crowded and the lines to rides much longer than daytime lines. Last 2 night events they have had we have only stayed an hour 2. Last year stayed til the end to see the christmas parade but it was a nightmare getting out of the carpal

  • yep I've been twice.

It's not snow, it's foam, but the effect is nice. Actually the whole park and the christmas parade really outdo themselves with the Christmas theme.

Saying that, forget the rides - it's queue after queue after queue. Like someone said before, it's worse thank day time.

But like my wife said, you don't go to something like this for the rides - it's all about the Christmas theme.

  • Been once. Bought $99 annual pass including VIP gold pass ie entry to White Xmas no extra charge. Experience as above mentioned.

  • We go every year and enjoy it - we do the Christmas buffet too. The crowds can be annoying at times though and the snow isn't on for long at all. But we enjoy the atmosphere and use it as a place to have a bit of a family get-together. The snow is just bubbles, it looks a lot like real falling snow but you can't play with it like real snow and it doesn't lie in the street once it lands. You can buy a snow machine that does the same thing for about $80 (mixture for it is about $20), a lot of houses have them at Christmas now. We got one for my daughters birthday party and have had a lot of fun with it.

I have to say, I went to the Carnivale and hated it. We queued for an hour for a stupid balloon that fell apart within 10 minutes, much to my daughters dismay. The parade was a complete and utter joke and dangerous to the crowd. If it's on next year we won't be bothering.

If your kid wants the snow experience, and you want the OzBargain way of doing it in sunny Queensland, then I'd recommend this:

That isn't the 2014 pictures like it says - it is the 2013 ones. The one thing they don't have a picture of is the tobogganing, which was my daughters favourite activity. You got 5 goes down a steep slope. Everyone of all ages was loving it.

It's on in the July holidays in Brisbane (QUT last year but Southbank previous years). It costs about $35 for 6 activities. My daughter had a ball and got the full snow experience for $35 - a lot cheaper than a trip down south. Just a tip - pre-buy your session ticket ahead of time, they were booked out days ahead so the people who were just turning up expecting to buy a ticket were being turned away. Last year you could buy tickets through their website and through Ticketek.

  • Hello! I have been attending White Christmas since it's introduction. It is great for families/young ones it can get busy but it is a great time to do the thrill rides with no wait while your partner takes care of the kids!

$42 is expensive and that is the highest it has ever been, I do recommend a VIP Gold or possibly wait a new locals offer that includes WC may be avalible soon.

  • Funny how people that have been to this, comment on how crowded it is, and how annoying the crowd can be…
Hello! You are/were part of that crowd.
BTW we are also considering going to this, this year (from Victoria).
