Some handy advice

So indeed some handy advice, and I want to give some too.

So I went out for dinner with gf. She tried to pay, it was declined, she thought maybe she had her pin wrong, so tried again and took more noticed of the payment from the efpos machine it declined again.

So I suggested I pay with cash, and did. On the way back home in the car, she checks her ING app, and its deducted!

So effectively, I've paid with cash, and she's been charged.

My advice to everyone is, whenever someone says your card is declined, keep the efpos receipt. Coz it certainly would help if it's INGs fault (not sure if it is, as we both suspect ing is buggy tonight, we both couldn't log in for a while).

I might add, this occurred at Tgi Fridays, I say this because I don't believe we've been defrauded coz money went into the till, change was given, plus I suspect there would be cameras in resturant given its a busy resturant in melb central.

So now I ask ozbargain for advice, what should we do?

It's probably just a pending charge and will be reversed automatically but give ING a call just to be safe.

Thanks donga, u were spot on, it was an authorisation that has been removed this morning.

But I don't get why it was denied when she tried to pay, but the authorisation still sat there for some time before being removed.

Some cards have a security feature that does this when you try to charge exactly the same amount from the same merchant at almost the same time. It's designed to prevent accidental double charges.

I guess that explains subsequent requests for payment, but the 1st request was denied too.

I'll leave it to mysteries of life.
