Comments

  • Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, Star Wars, Fast and the Furious, The Hangover. They're a lot more but these are the ones I can think of.

  • Studio Ghibli series. Grave of the Fireflies, Totoro, Laputa… etc

  • Back to the future trilogy, alien 2-4, godfather 3, transformers (the last one), Bourne trilogy.

    • I loved the first movie, disliked the second one, kinda liked the third one - but the fourth one… my god - what an atrocity. Please, just don't see it.

P.S The Bourne series is actually a quadrilogy.

  • Just picking some out of top 20 of the Top 100 Greatest Movies of All Time list:
The Godfather films, Raging Bull, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Forrest Gump

  • I haven't seen:

    1. Any of the Godfather films
    2. Rocky
    3. Fast and the Furious (after no. 3)
    4. X-men (after the third)
    5. Silence of the Lambs
    6. Memento
    7. Reservoir Dogs
    8. Any of the Marvel ones released in the last 18 months
    9. Top Gun, seen the first 10 mins about a dozen times.
    10. Toy Story 3

There are loads of others, just got these from the imdb top 250/previous answers. I have seen a lot of films, haven't watched these because they either don't interest me at all or just never got around to it.

  • Apocalypse Now (ReDux!)
    The Shawshank Redemption
    The Great Escape
.. and yeah some of the other Top 100's as mentioned by Oldbugger.

  • I consider myself a bit of a movie buff, but here are a few apparently very good movies from the last 44 years that I've never got around to watching:

    Apocalypse Now
    Deer Hunter
    Leon
    Toy Story 3
    Life is Beautiful
    Django Unchained
    Amadaeus
    Unforgiven
    Raging Bull
    Chinatown
    Good Will Hunting
    Trainspotting
    Into the Wild
    Million Dollar Baby
    Gandhi
Studio Ghibli stuff (aside from Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro)

Extremely impressed with the OP for somehow not seeing any Harry Potter or LotR films. How have you even managed that?

    • Not sure how but i havent even seen any trailers for either movie either. Have no idea what these are about or who stars in them.

      • Not only are these two of the biggest film franchises of all time, but two of the biggest book series… ever. The Hobbit was published nearly 80 years ago, followed by the Lord of the Rings books 60 years ago. Harry Potter is a cultural phenomenon, with it still being hugely popular even 17 years after the first book was published. Unless you've been living in Antarctica for the last 20 years, not even having the slightest clue of what these things are about is… insane.

This is like not knowing who the The Beatles were.

        • Who are the Beatles? Ha ha

  • +1

Same as OP except > 2 Titanic and > 10. Independence Day which are surprisingly contrary to the bandwagoning popular opinion are OK in a cheesy way.

I'd add Star Wars, Star Trek etc. Oh and Jaws. Was that in 1980s?

Haven't seen the Godfather series or Scarface either.

Guess I'm not a big movie person. Especially today with the bad actors like Owen Wilson, Seth Rogan, Vince Vaughn, Adam Sandler etc. How do these people keep getting gigs? I noticed they got overpaid and then cast themselves in movies they produce. Pretty clever. They must all share the same top agent that can sell sand to Arabs and ice to Inuits.

    • cast themselves in movies they produce

You just answered your question. Plus they are historically popular, so even if they aren't paying themselves, they get gigs because they'll bring the crowds.

But there are heaps - HEAPS - of good movies made these days. Those actors star in a tiny minority of all films released.

      • After finding out about Joseph Campbell's book about seven faces of hero stories and how Star Wars director George Lucas has read it, I pretty much just gave up on today's Hollywood movies and now just get DVDs of the pre-70s classics and TV shows. Plus it's fun to watch shows with my SO that she used to watch as a kid.

Another cool idea is to watch the award winners but then I read about how it's almost rigged and a lot of politics involved and the best films don't always win.

        • I've got to say, disregarding 45 years of cinema - a third the length of the entire history of film - is a little ridiculous. The Hero with a Thousand Faces describes archetypal heroes dating back to ancient mythology, not just modern film. If your experience with modern film is with those actors you listed, then can I suggest, before you give up on today's movies, maybe look outside cookie-cutter rom-coms. Maybe even try a "foreign" film - i.e. something made outside of Hollywood.

  • I haven't watched Star Wars, Star Trek, Momento, Toy Story 2,3. I have watched 15-30 mins of 'Silence of the Lambs' 5-6 times but due to various reasons cannot pass that.

  • BROKE BACK MOUNTAIN

  • The Wog Boy, Australia, Mrs Brown - all popular Aussie films I have not seen - and have no intention of watching

    • Onya, mate.

Seriously though, there are some excellent Aussie films that deserve your time - The Proposition, anyone?
