Handyman needed to vent cooking canopy through the roof to the outside of house - Hills District, NSW

We had our cooking rangehood installed a few years ago. It turns out the guy just vented it into the roof cavity, rather than outside.

I need to get someone to vent it to the outside (ie. through the roof to the outside world).

Not a major job but want it done right the first time. Any recommendations?

I want to get this done before I get new insulation in the roof….

  • DIY and save the coin.
Bunnings sell a kit for just over $100 I think. It has a chinaman's hat roof cowling which replaces a tile, and some length of flexible duct to join to your outlet. add a few tubes of silicone to join it all up.
It's a pretty easy task if you are willing to get on your roof and lift a tile. You'll just need to see what sort of end the existing outlet has on it and whether it is 100mm or 125mm or other size.

    • agreed with battler, it should be pretty easy to install. As simple as removing a few tiles, they are heavy, and slotting it in UNDERNEATH the tiles above it . The hardest bit will be finding the right tubing width to connect to the rangehood, however there are heaps of plumbing adaptors that can help if it doesn't fit. Do it yourself imo, it will take a few hours + a ladder

  • If you speak cantonese, I can recommend a reliable tradesman, but he is unlicensed.

This guy did my kitchen and bathroom renovation and fixed up a botched hot water install by AGL (the moron contractors they used left a leaking pipe underneath my house! Lucky this guy spotted it and patched it until AGL came back to fix it)

Thanks for the Bunnings tip - sounds like that's the go.

However I am a lummox so I won't do it myself - just need someone who can put the kit in…
