  Can anybody comment on the playbar? I'm a bit hesitant to pull the trigger as it doesn't have ARC so is perpetually on and in standby mode (electricity waste) also no airplay or bluetooth streaming support??

  I have a playbar and yes it will be on constantly. I have my HT setup (playbar tv sub) connected through zwave controlled powerplug and have it switched off every night automatically.

  It doesn't have bluetooth support as you mentioned although it's not something that bothers me (i have google play music subscription and all my previous music collection is exposed through media server which can be played directly from sonos)

  It's missing in my opinion is the most important component for HT setup, an hdmi connection which means no dts 7.1 and only some tvs will support 5.1 passthrough optical cable connection which could be a big issue for some

  IMO, if you only want to setup HT system, i think it would be crazy to look into sonos however if you are already invested into sonos ecosystem then it is worth considering ti. But make sure your tv supports 5.1 passthrough

      No problem mate. It's pretty expensive gears i would hate to see anyone wasting their money for something that doesn't suit what they need.

  how is the sound bar compared to phillips HTL9100 given it cost twice as much for both bar and the subwoofer.

    Oranges & Lemons. Yes the SONOS Soundbar is a Soundbar but it's much more than that, it's part of a multi-zone audio system. If you don't need multi-zone audio then you don't need SONOS.
