Nokia N1 Tablet - Thoughts & Expectations?

Nokia finally dip a toe in the water with their first android tablet built by Foxconn Nokia N1. Is it too late?

The company is now planning to launch the Nokia N1 in China for $249 (before taxes) around the time of Chinese New Year (February 19th), and it will roll out to Russia and select European countries after the Chinese release.

7.9" (2048 x 1536)
2.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Atom Z3580
32GB of storage
8MP Rear Camera
5MP Front Camera

While the Nokia N1 looks like an iPad mini with Android, the company has actually gone a few steps further in improving
Apple’s popular tablet. Nokia’s N1 display is fully laminated, unlike the iPad mini 3, and the N1 is just 6.9mm thick and >318 grams in weight, both thinner and lighter than Apple’s offering

  • Intel graphics drivers are terrible though, but they do have pretty decent performance overall. Seeing as Nokia is basically M$ now they probably have a deal with Intel but I'd preferred to see an Nvidia K1 chipset (AKA Nvidia Shield competitor).

They should make 2 versions, 1 running Lollipop and the other Windows.

This tablet is produced by the remnant Nokia - the bit that didn't get bought out by Microsoft.

Microsoft will soon drop the Nokia branding from their handsets, while remnant Nokia sells mainly networking gear and a few items like this tablet for the Nokia fans.

      • i.e. probably not much future for this tablet. Unless it can be bought cheap enough and the hardware spec is open enough to get some community support (like HP TouchPad).

        • usb2 only (not a big deal to me)

does it have an SD slot?

      • MS already have dropped the Nokia branding long time ago, they kept the Lumia branding for their phones though. No MicroSD slot made me a tad bit sad. Also I am sort of worried about the fact that
        1. It is OEM, 2. the GPU used in it is PowerVR G6430, same as iPhone 5s. I am worried about it lagging a lot, since it is Android, not saying that iOS is better but iOS does have advantage on optimisation, and the resolution is far higher than iPhone 5s.
