Casillero Del Diablo Reserva Privada Cab Syrah 6 Btl $39.96 Usually $120 @ Vintage Cellars Instore

180

This deal appears to be instore only. It may take some explaining so here goes. First though, usual per bottle price at Vintage Cellars is $22.21. At their cousin, first choice:
https://www.1stchoice.com.au/Red%20Wine/casillero-del-diablo…

At the moment, vintage cellars have halved the price on this lovely drop to $11.11. What is even better though, is that it is part of the current 'buy 2, get 1 free' clearance promo. So you can effectively get 3 bottles of this wine for the price of one. The cherry on this cake though, is that if you pick up 6 bottles, you get an additional 10% off!
As for quality, this is somewhat subjective but here is my reasoning for value and quality:
- 'reserva privada' is a private reserve, a cut above the everyday wines of this company. This one has spent 14 months in French oak.
-It's Chilean Wine, and as a new world wine is generally decent value for what you pay. It's not too different to aussie reds, a bit less jammy than some.
- the standard casillero bottles usually sell for around $13-$15.
- these wines are apparently good enough to be served in LAN business class!

I am not sure I'd drink this every day at full retail price, but find it excellent value at half price for a bottle. For under $7 a bottle in a six pack buy (or 6 bottles for less than the price of 2), it's a no-brainer!

Great, thx for the tip, I'm well stocked up on wine at the moment but this wrap of yours is too good to pass up! Cheers

  • "It's not too different to aussie reds".
Sorry mate, chilean wines are really really good. Casillero del diablo is very good.

    • Don't be sorry for your good taste, I'm just trying to pitch this delicious quality stuff by providing a simple reference (aussie reds) that most people here might have experienced.

sorry, yes, I don't want to sound arrogant. It's because I'm chilean :D

        • Good to read someone else from Chile here!

        • @bniko: Chileans everywhere :D

        • excellent! its good to see more chileans around here, hahaha

        • Howdy neighbours, I'm from Argentina.

  • Great find…one question though, did you buy the Cab Shiraz or the straight Cab Sav as per the 1st Choice link? Or are they the same wine?

    • It's the same wine; the first choice link description mentions the Syrah even if the item title doesn't:
'cherry and plum flavours from Cabernet Sauvignon combine with Syrah-endowed fresh black fruits'

Thanks, you're right, I couldn't read the label on the bottle…

My local Vintage also had the straight Cabernet marked at the same price but unfortunately had sold out before I got there…..They only had 5 Cab Syrah's left (perhaps they were the 'straight' cabernets afterall?) and the guy wouldn't budge on the buy 3 get 1 free so I walked out with 3 for $22 so can't complain..

Besides, didn't really need any more wine but couldn't resist another bargain….. and I'm sure Mrs Z will like a drink when she gets home from work in the next hour.. thanks again carwashhair!

  • Great drop for the price..grab some while stocks last

Thanks… got 5 Reserva Privada (all that was left at my local) and one Reserva for $39.96.

  • Any idea when this runs until?

    • Since it's instore and a specific clearance promotion, I assume it ends when either all stock is sold or VC pull the promotion.
