AmEx Shop Small promotion - online success stories?

As we're now in the final week of this promotion, I was wondering if anyone has any good success stories with online purchases that they wish to share? I've still got a few purchases left to take advantage of but have exhausted all of my local (good) options.

I haven't bought anything online as yet to specifically take advantage of the $10 credit, but am considering getting some coffee from www.sevenseeds.com.au who also conveniently sell vouchers in $20 amounts.

several of listed merchants don't accept amex. Disappointing! Amex customer care person hang up on me when I asked him to honor my purchase at one of these places.
I did not expect this from Amex.

This has happened to me once last time with the $5 cashback and once this time around.

I contact them via the Feedback link on the shop small page and both times they've honoured it.

You get a response within 48 hours that goes along the lines of:

      "Dear Raymond,

Thank you for your email and supporting the Shop Small movement.

We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused and will be happy to honour the $10 credit to your account. Please allow 5-10 business days for the credit to appear on your statement. If your credit has not appeared on your statement in the next 10 days, please could you email us and we will investigate and if needed will manually process the credit.

Please also note, per the conditions of the offer, you can only receive up to a maximum of $100 ($10 credit x 10) for eligible transactions inclusive of the gesture of goodwill credit.

We will also pass your feedback on to our merchant team who will update our map.

Once again, please accept our sincere apology for the inconvenience this may have caused to you.

Should you have further enquiries, please do not hesitate to contact us at any time.

      Kind regards,
      Amex Connect"

      • Thanks for that raymond y.

Just something interesting to note, I sent through two different feedbacks as I was caught out twice by the merchant not accepting AMEX when the website said they do. The first one I associated with my AMEX issued Platinum Edge Card, have had no response yet (submitted 24/11/14 at about 13:45). Second one I submitted 25/11/14 at 14:30 and associated with my Westpac Issued Earth Card and I got a response within an hour.

End of the day, it is better than nothing, but just confused why my Westpac issued card got a response and I am still waiting for one for my AMEX issued card.

I tried to use it at a restaurant in Glen Waverley but was told that they had a minimum charge of $30 for Amex. At 2 other places, they refused to let me sign for my purchases eventhough my DJ's Amex does not have a PIN and I ended up paying cash. After the first incident 2 weeks ago, I emailed Amex attaching the receipt but have yet to receive a response.

    • PIN only from August 1 2014.

      • Yes but DJ Amex has not contacted me regarding a PIN and I am still able to sign for purchases with the card at most places. Those were the only two rejections I've encountered. I assume when they send out new cards (with new expiry dates), they will provide instructions on PINs.

        • Log in and choose a PIN

      • Thanks.

    • I think you set a pin online yourself when you set up online access?

      • Oh, ok I haven't done that so thanks, will look into it.

      • Turns out that my card does not have a chip for PIN so will need to get a new card if I want to use a PIN.

  • Success with Telecube and FaktorTel, two of the VoIP providers that I use.

  • Dish'd works…

    • Really? I was wondering if it did… :) Thanks.

Flipside story. Dad's a small business owner, and we were on the Amex website, and we had the promo stuff stuck around the register area. Nobody pulled the Amex card in the past two months. (Amex took their sweet time before they added us to their system). We asked some people if they'd registered their card for the promotion but they had no idea what it was.
