Positive Vote Spamming on Deals

I've noticed a few times recently where the live feed is completely congested by certain users upvoting every single deal they see.

Does this annoy anyone else? Clearly they aren't reading the actual deals because they are upvoting one every second.

Usually the live feed is a useful way of seeing which deals are worth investigating if i see a lot of different users + a certain deal. Having someone spam + every deal on the front pages detracts from this.

Anyway to stop it? personally block the users who are doing this? restrict the amount of +votes per minute? anything?

I've seen this before too but can't understand why they are doing it. I would support a restriction on the number of +votes per minute. Perhaps 1 vote per minute?

  • Yeah its annoying to see hundreds +green sign on li e feeds… It ruins all advantage of having live feed.

We do have a throttle for +1 votes for deals. I think you cannot up vote more than half of average number of deals posted per day.

Scotty, problem is when someone up vote 25 deals in span of few seconds and total deals posted on that day is 50. I have seen this specially in the morning.
Edit, look at user jaybmate who who upvoted few deals 9 mins back. He upvoted close to 20 deals in few sec.

      • If you take a look at his voted page, most of his up-voted deals are the ones already having lots of votes. It's easy looking at the front page of OzBargain and think "yum… all these nice deals" and up vote them.

        • Seems we are missing the point op has raised. Question is is there anyway we can stop user to upvote more than say 1 Deal in 1 minute so that it does not clog up live feed.

@cniminc: No. The point I am trying to make is that it's a valid behavior for a user thus not a problem. Live feed is fast moving — anything that "clog up" would be gone in minutes.

@scotty: haha, classic! You sound like you could work in my company! "its not a bug, that's part of the design!". or "its not the system, its a PEBCAK"

        • @tight-a55: Even in my company as well..Client requirement v/s design.

      • so I actually did that as a test to see if anyone would notice, lol. I actually don't really vote on that many deals

I actually don't really vote on that many deals

But when I do I vote for every deal on the front page!

I think 1 vote a minute is perhaps a little too restrictive, as I often open a half dozen tabs and rapidly review a number of deals. Perhaps 1 every 10s would be more appropriate if a limit is needed at all.

On a second point, there are a series of tick boxes at the top of the live feed view that let you select what is displayed. I always turn off upvotes (and sometimes comments too), as it clutters the view too much.

Yeah would be nice if people voted for deals that they saw value in too, not just free Udemy courses and ebooks which clog up the homepage.
