If you want a cheap coffee table that looks a bit more substantial, check out Kmart as they have $10 45cm x 45cm wooden tables that look OK and are fairly sturdy. I bought a couple for the garage, they're great. No fold-up legs and only black colour but here it is:

The 'Lack' from IKEA is essentially the same design (10cm bigger each side) and comes in a variety of colours. Black and white are both $7.99 at the moment.
