What Would You Ask for in a $50 Kris Kringle Exchange?

So this year I'm participating in a $50 KK gift exchange. Participants have to list their top three requests that are $50 or under latest by mid Dec so that the secret Santas have sufficient time to source the items.

I acknowledge that $50 isn't a big amount to play with, but as I hate waste and am an Ozbargainer at heart, I am seeing this as $50 I'd be spending on me (as I'd be spending the $50 on someone else in the exchange), so I'd like something useful and good. Something that is worth the $50 price tag, as opposed to junky novelty items that happen to fall in that price range, if that makes sense.

No cash or gift vouchers allowed unfortunately.

Ideally it's one item at that price rather than multiple smaller items totalling $50 and something you can buy in a brick and mortar store (for all I know my secret Santa may not be vey internet savvy as the age group spans from 14-70 years).

With the above criteria in mind, what circa $50 item would you ask for? I'd love to hear ideas.

As I recently started getting into and collecting watches, is there a watch display/storage box you would recommend that is around $50?

What about household items that are commonly overlooked or underestimated but in reality are quite useful?

Any practical tech items around that price you can think of?

What about a $50 'experience' gift (eg high tea although I'm pretty sure they start from $60)? I am not 100% sure if an experience gift is allowed though seeing that gift vouchers are out.

I've searched for ideas including the buy-it-for-life sub reddit and a few 'what should I get my KK' threads here and elsewhere, but would like to see if you have further ideas for items at that price point that are not too hard to source in Australia.

I may be overthinking it all but it would be fun to hear some ideas!

  • Ring Strangers Corridor in Melbourne Parliament House about High Tea option. Only problem is that availability to members of public is limited to afternoons when parliament is not sitting and it is not open on weekends. Lovely art deco windows and paneling. Very quiet and great service.

    • Thanks for the idea. I think there's only one sitting day left for the year too so I'll keep this option in mind.

  • chromecast?

  • KK should also be something fun that you wouldn't necessarily buy for yourself
