Refused Full Details on Eyeglass Prescription

Greetings,

I had been to numerous optical store e.g. OPSM, Specsavers etc…

I was refused full access and details to my eyeglass prescription numerous times such as PD (Pupillary distance) or Axis

Without my PD and/or Axis, I can't get my eyeglass made elsewhere

Is this is even a legal business practice? I mean the eye test is all paid for through Medicare.

What can I do about this?

  • Get mine done at specsavers and they are more than happy to give me the details. I then pick up a 3rd pair at BigW that I use for work as I usually go through a couple of these pairs a year. Medispecs was the same.

  • Go to an optometrist and get your eyes checked - it's free on Medicare. You will then have your full prescription.

Does your eyeglass prescription include the PD and Axis? they can be quite sneaky on full details

When I asked for the PD, they came up with BS about PD are lens/frame specific - This is not true. It a measurement using a PD stick - the distance (the industry standard is to measure in millimeters) between the centers of the pupils in each eye

A good optometrist will tell you the PD and axis - I am assuming you have astigmatism? Either way, just ask your optometrist and they should tell you everything you need to know. By the way, they will check your macula health as well.

if you are paid using medicare you are entitled to your glasses prescription (says so somewhere on the medicare site). i think axis should be part of your prescription, don't know about pd. you could measure your pd using a ruler + mirror + camera or 2nd person if you really needed to.

bigw give you a computer printout of your prescription, including pd. don't feel pressured in to necessarily buying any glasses through them.

i've also been to optical superstore a while back and got a printed prescription afterwards including pd.

You should be entitled to your own information including the PD

Might be worth taking a look at this:

Although if they flat out refuse I am not sure you can force them. Hence why the checkout says ask before the examination?

    Anyway good luck!
