Applecare

Hey Guys
My warranty is almost up on my 2013 27" iMac. Had it for 1 year soon.

Should I buy the $189 applecare to extended the warranty to 3 years?

  • No, you already receive 2 years standard warranty from Apple and Apple products are built to last from my experience.

Applecare adds an extra 1 year of warranty and support (Total of 3 years). I'm assuming you have had no problems currently with your iMac and just leave it on your desk.

Save your money and spend it on something else like an Apple TV :)

    • Thanks but where does it say I have 24month warranty. I can only see 12 months on the apple.com.au site

  • This article should help. If there are any defects within 24 months of purchasing the Apple product, Apple will replace or fix the product under Australian Consumer Law. If you purchased the iMac from Apple, then you can return it to them for warranty. I hope this helps!

  • I generally agree with ShamelessBargain. But have a good search through the forums for your exact model. If there are some common issues (very unlikely) consider purchasing it.

  • As someone who has owned macs for years.. my advice: GET APPLECARE
believe me its worth every penny.. especially given they only need to give 12m warranty and that after that its at their discretion

The other upside of apple care:
Phone support for 3 years (you only get 90 days without apple care)
and they come to you if you have issues, no need to carry the imac into an apple store.

Small price to pay, and believe me its worth every cent

  • I agree it's worth it as they come to your house for any issues and it's the cheapest of all mac AppleCare, compared to MBP which is over $300

  • There is a lot of margin on AppleCare, so head in to JB Hi-Fi or Good Guys and haggle them down :)

  • Never had AppleCare, never had a problem in the last few decades. I did break my iPhone screen, but they repaired that for $30, and I did have them replace another iphone on the spot for free when the wifi stopped working. I also broke my MacBook Air screen, and they replaced that on the spot for $400. I also had an old macbook which had its penor cable fray. The battery fried too, so I took it to apple, and despite being 5 or 6 years old, they gave me a new power cable and battery.
