(Android) Maps.me PRO Free through 'App of The Day'

170

For the ones who missed this app via Amazon deal (not sure if it's still on at amazon) -
Maps.me PRO free through 'App of the Day'!

Just download the 'app of the day' app and through that you can download one paid app for free each day - today's app is Maps.me pro - which recently have added getting directions from offline maps. Which is really cool. It does not seem to have voice navigation though, but can't complain.

For today - the app is free by itself, use this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mapswithme…

App of the day tells you which app is free for the day - either gives a code to redeem or you can directly download from playstore for free. This one falls in later category.

  • Is there an option to download Maps.me straight from Play then enter the AppoftheDay code?

  • I started using navfree https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.navfree.an…
It has voice navigation and also uses OSM maps. Voice isn't fantastic but it does the job.

    • Sounds good! Maybe this is what Maps.Me are aiming to achieve eventually. Wonder which would be better.

    • Both have + and -, you need internet to search on it. But to avoid that you can use complete address as well - but that's not very convenient.
In Maps.me, you can search completely offline.. but search is not very good. I could not find DFO Moorabbin. It listed few DFOs when I searched using 'DFO' but moorabbin was not in the list (though closest).

  • I thought once you changed a google app to free, you cannot change it back to paid? Therefore the Pro version may be permanently free? Someone correct me if I'm wrong thanks

    • You are right - found this:

Important: If you change an app from Paid to Free and save the change, the change is permanent; the app can't be changed back to a paid app.
If you want to charge again for a paid app that you’ve changed to a free app, you would need to create a new app with a new package name and set a price for the new app.

May be they will remove this and create a new one? - But that seems hard as they will lose rating and all. So it might remain free - :)

  • Get it from PlayStore (free as posted above) as you will have it permanently. Appoftheday works only until you need to reinstall the app.

    • App of the day is also basically redirecting to play store, so it would work out to be same.
