Missing Letters and Post in Mail Box

For the last few months, i've been losing mails on gift cards, samples and some post in the mail box.
My mail box is unlocked, however, my parent or my parent in law always at home and we located at the dead end of the street, it is less possibility that get stolen from others.

Also, the missing post seems always to be Samples, Gift Cards and membership cards. All other mails like bank statement, bills comes ok.

The latest one, we've got a gift card resent with registered post. However, there's none notice for over 2 weeks up until we've chased the supplier for the tracking number and went to the post office to ask, it is really siting in the post office without notice!

All courier and startrack delivery comes ok.

Now, do i really need to suspect the local postman or the local post office? If so, where i gonna complaint to?

  • You put a lock on your mailbox, or get a PO Box.

    • wont help if it is getting stolen at the mail centre, local distribution centre or by the postman.

      • No, but it will help you figure out if that's where the problem is.

  • Im also interested in knowing who to complain to about our postmans incompetency in putting letters into the letter box, instead of on top of the letter box. I emailed a couple months ago, but history is starting to repeat it self.
Tempted to hide in the bushes and wait for them, then give them my big rant.

    • Put a note on the letterbox asking why he does not put it in the box. Very odd… there could be a reason for it?

You can lodge a complaint with austpost.. check their website. Good luck with anything being done though.
Your valuable items could be going missing at the mail centre, local distribution centre or taken by the mail man. It does happen and frequently. Don't point the finger at your postie as he may be totally innocent and you have no proof.

I had mail held for 2 weeks while I was away some time ago and when I returned there was no delivery of the mail held in that time. Lodged a complaint with austpost and they were not the least bit interested.

Like any organisation where there is a level of trust required there will always be a weasel in the team.
Its human nature and its everywhere.
    Generally austpost is very good.
Plenty of reading here from people with austpost heartaches…

my mail delivery has been pretty good. i think once or twice i didn't get a notice saying that there was a parcel waiting at my local post office. only one parcel from china has ever gone missing

    • I used to get a lot of deliveries and had all sorts of weird problems with a lot of the private couriers. AP was consistently 10/10 for me.
A lot of it comes down to the deliverer and the local distribution point I suppose??
Everywhere can be different with this kind of business, its more the attitude of the people than the brand.

LOL… Saw a private courier deliver a package (boxed about 20cmx20cm) to a neighbour one day recently… he walked only part way and threw the parcel to their doorway about 20mr away and it missed and bounced off the garage. He went and picked it up and walked back to the same spot and threw it again and this time he landed it in the doorway after a few bounces. He must have been having a bad day?

  • This may or may not help you depending on your specific circumstances but might be worth looking into a 24/7 Parcel locker.

The advantage is they skip the posty part and place the package where you want (either the post office or a computer locker system) and sms/email you the information you need to get your package instead.

Some things I can think of that might hinder you is it only works for packages, limit on box size, from memory you can't use it for stuff that requires signatures, and international parcels attract an extra fee.

  • Mail theft is absolutely out of control in Sydney, has been for years. It is especially bad for strata properties where there are mailbox banks (lotsa mailboxes altogether) and criminals go to town on the boxes in one go. Same would be for single dwellings if the mailbox is easily accessible or unlocked.

At this point in time, I wouldnt be blaming Austpost first
