Buy $50 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card, Get Voucher for 20% off (up to Max of $20 off)

430

Saw a the sign in store today at JB HiFi World Square (Sydney), but can't find any reference for this in their website.

I know that you can get the 20% if you sign up for their newsletter or something, but for this one, you don't need to sign up for anything.

There are exclusions for the 20% off, and the discount is capped at $20.
The exclusions that I can remember are mobile phones, gift cards.

Update:
T&C's from Catalogue, They managed to fit it on 2 very small lines.

"Purchase a JB gift card for a minimum value of $50 in store and get a bonus discount voucher up to $20. Discount voucher is for 20% off product purchases up to $100 only valid in store. Bring back last year's mastercard deal!

  • So… what if you buy the card, get 20% off $50. Which equates to $40.
Then use that to buy blu-rays at a further discounted 20%.
    Anyone done that?

    • You can't use the voucher to get discount off the purchase price but if the same as last year you can use it for DVDs which are already 20% off. That's what I did last year

      • Oh right. I understand now.

does anyone know the T&Cs for the 20% voucher? as in what is excluded?

    • Pls see update, copied it off from bluey47's comments

  • Is it possible to buy four to use all in one go later on?

  • +3

I've used this, only one voucher to be used per transaction, also you have to wait a day to use the voucher after getting it.

    • Thanks for the clarification

    • "Discount voucher is for 20% off product purchases up to $100"
Does that mean you can't use the voucher if the transaction is over $100?

      • Pretty sure it just means the discount is capped at $20.00.

    • hmm, doesnt say "cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer"…

      • So we can buy x2 $50 gift cards and use the x2 20% vouchers in one transaction and get $40 discount for <$100 purchase?

        • You can only use 1 20% off voucher in 1 trans I think.

        • @equavate: The way I read those t&c's is that you can only get 1 voucher per transaction (Only one voucher ISSUED per transaction) however you can use up to 2 vouchers at a time when buying things (Maximum TWO vouchers per customer). I may be wrong though.

        • interesting. i'm sure JB doesn't want you to do this but it doesn't seem like there's anything against it in the T&C. anyone game enough to try? lol

        • How would this work if the Gift Card is basically in your name, as well as the giftees?

        • Other way around. You can buy maximum 2 gift cards to get to 20% off coupons. Each coupon can then be used in separate transactions.

e.g. Day 1 - Buy 2 gift cards in two separate transactions and get 2 20% off coupons - let's call them coupon A and coupon B.

          Day 2 - Spend $100, get 20% off using coupon A

Day 2 or later - Spend second $100, get 20% off using coupon B

    • "Maximum discount of $20 discount is calculated off current ticket price"
With the current 20% off BD/DVDs, is the ticketed price inclusive of the 20% discount, or is it the non-discounted price and the 20% is taken off at the checkout? If it's the latter, then the bonus 20% off voucher won't stack (i.e. you can't get 20% off a BD (from the sale), and then a further 20% off (from the voucher)) right?

      • The discount of the voucher is taken off the final purchase price at the register. So for example if you purchase 2 x DVDs for $30 during the 20% off sale these will come to $24. You will then receive 20% off $24, i.e. $4.80, so in effect your 2 x DVDs have cost you $19.20.

This is what I did with some DVDs last time this offer was made. Saved me a few bucks.

    • Thanks, I'll update the main post with the detailes T&C.

  • So I can buy a $50 voucher today, and then use it tomorrow to buy a game for 20% off?

    • +1

Yea I'm guessing that's how it's gonna be most useful

    • +4

If you want 20% off a game just sign up to JB HiFi NOW

      • Already tried that a few times. I can keep printing out the voucher, but I heard they are asking for proof of when you signed up now. I figured this would be less hassle :)

        • Yeah I always sign up again and print a fresh one with the date on it. It takes less than 5 minutes to make a new gmail and facebook account

  • EDIT: NVM - I mis read this as 20% off a JB HiFi vouchure.

    Is this Allowed?

Using a JBHIFI E-Card from coke rewards to buy the $50 giftcard at JBHIFI?

    • I'm also considering this. Got quite a few JB vouchers from coke rewards that I could convert to these and get the 20%. Would work out nicely.

    • +1

I can now confirm that this works. I was able to do it in store with no problems. It's a great way to consolidate all those small denomination coke reward vouchers into 50s and get 20% off vouchers at the same time.

Got the same deal last time it was offered for father's day.

Essentially it's 20% off anything in store up to a capped discount of $20 off.

And it stacks with any other sale they have on the store at the time as far as I know (ie. the current 20% off all blu ray ones, 25% if they emailed you a unique code).

If you know you're going to spend money at Jb Hi Fi anyway before the expiry date, just pick up the gift cards and the coupon for later use next time you pass the store.

I'm sure everyone realizes you can just use the gift cards yourself.

  • This is a great deal, I got PS Vita + Freedom Wars for $180.

  • Can't get my head around this or I'm not sure how this works I just purchased two blu Rays which have 20% off right now I used my 5% off I got emailed so really 25% off my two purchases.
What could this have saved me?
If I remember one full priced one was $169 and other was if I remember $34.
I also was interested in another item but never bothered it would be $108 with 20% current deal on as my 5% off already used and can't be used again.

    • Uh, my maths has been unreliable lately but I'll take a stab at it, double or nothing I say.

Whatever your total bill was, x0.2 is the amount you would have saved via the coupon if it was less than $100. If it was more than $100, you would have just saved an extra $20.

Keep in mind you would have had to buy the gift card (and receive the coupon), then gone home and waited a day for the coupon to activate, then come back and buy what you actually wanted, using the gift card and surrendering the coupon.
And then buy another gift card and get another coupon for next time :)

  • So instead of buying a $69 game, I buy a $50 voucher and get the 20% off voucher. I apply the 20% voucher to the game bringing it down to $55.20, use the $50 voucher and then give them $5.20 cash, this sounds like quite the ozbargain :)

    • yep, seems like the most useful way of using this deal, I'm sure a lot of people will do similar. just note that you have to buy the gift card at least a day before the game though.

      • +1

Yep I can confirm this is the case, just bought one and had a good laugh about me cheating the system. Might be worth getting the OP to put in the description that you have to wait 1 day for the code to work?

  • the T&C doesn't say it can't be stacked with other coupons? so can i use it with the 20% off coupon from signing up to their music service (or for that matter, from another $50 gift card) for a total of (0.2100)+(0.280) = 36% off an item?

  • +2

Just an FYI, I bought the gift card and received the 20% voucher, but then I walked into another JB Hifi within 30 mins and I could use the voucher and gift card straight away. So I think if you do just 2 transactions it should be fine.

  • Can this be combined with the extra 5% off Christmas voucher they sent out?

  • -3

This promo is all too confusing… Why would JB even put this out!

    • +1

I really don't understand what's so confusing about it.

You walk into the store and buy a $50 gift card.

They will give you the gift card, and a piece of paper with a barcode on it (the voucher) that will allow you to have 20% off your next purchase (up to $20 max discount).

The next time you're in the store, buy something, pay using the gift card (plus cash if the gift card is not enough) and hand over the voucher for 20% off whatever you're buying.

  • Got a $50 for myself and a $15 for office Kris kringle. Sales lady gave me two 20 off vouchers.

  • I told my missus to do this today and the register lady INSISTED that it didn't stack (and the missus didn't end up doing it). I told her to do it anyway but it was too late.

  • This did work for me. Bought a Camera costing 84.15 for 67.32 (20%off).How:Purchased a JB Hi-Fi 50$ Gift Voucher . Got a 20% Discount Voucher as well with it. Went to an another JB Hi-Fi in 15 minutes and bought the camera by paying 17.32$ Cash + 50$ Gift Voucher + 20% Discount Voucher :)

  • I bought the gift card, walked around for 5 mins and was able to use the voucher for $20 off my A6000 camera.

  • Is this deal still on?

    • Should be. The sign says that the offer ends on 24/12/14.

    • Yup, did it about 30 mins ago (VIC)!

      • Went to Glen Waverley shop last night to buy the GC. The guy there said the promotion is expired? :-(

        • Maybe show him the OP picture on your phone? They should have a little stand advertising the deal at the counters. They did in both Bayside and Frankston yesterday (both saying expires on 24th)

  • do PSN cards from JB count as "gift cards"?

    • I would like to know this too, especially since my PS+ is about to expire!

    • +1

Yes, it will work. I just bought psn cards using the 20% off voucher.

  • Has anyone tried buying 2 GCs in one trip to the cashier (put through as 2 separate transactions)?

  • Has anyone used this for a purchase over $100?

    • It should just cap out at the max discount of $20, like the old ones did.

  • Bought Fifa 15 and pokemon. Came up to $88 after the discount

  • So has the Now music trial 20% voucher finished now?
Also, is this the only offer on and is it possible to use on same day?

    • When my NOW voucher didn't work, I just bought a $50 gift card right there and used the new 20% off voucher.

  • Did anyone try this in Victoria ?

    • Yep, bought a $50 gift card today and got the voucher, used them both at a different store 15 mins later; can confirm. Bought in Bayside and redeemed in Frankston.

  • anyone know if this is still working?
