Please help me decide on which laptop to buy

Dear ozbians

Please help me decide which laptop to buy. I got $350 worth of store credit to use at thegoodguys.Laptop brands thegoodguys sells online are Asus, Toshiba, HP and Acer
So in a way I am limited to buy a decent laptop among these brands.

I want to get something with i5/i7, 4GB ram above or 8 would be better,500 GB+ or greater HDD. Happy to pay upto $800 for a decent laptop with the above mentioned specs

Please let me know which brand to go with and the model.

Thanks

All reasonable brands you list there. Laptops can vary not only in brand but also by model.
A SSD drive in lieu of a hdd is a must these days. Sometimes it can be cheaper to buy just a hdd version and install a ssd later. SSD fitted lappys seem to be expensive??

  • Anything buy Acer, I used to fix them and they were easily the frequent with issues and were the hardest to repair. Asus had the best record, but try avoid their cheap cheap models, follow by HP and Toshiba.

  • Thanks guys

Narrowed down to these two.Which one is better?

  • This one is: http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/toshiba-z30-133-inches-core-i5…

Or, if you want better gaming power, this one is a good cheaper alternative, but hasnt got the SSD like the one above: http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/toshiba-l50-156-inches-core-i5…

The GTX 820M graphics chip in the ASUS is pretty useless and not much better than the integrated graphics on the CPU.

If there's no rush, wait until TGG have a good sale and use the vouchers then, get a better bargain :)

  • Thank Rictzer.

There's no hurry. Store credit expires on 24-12-2014.
Happy to wait for a better deal ;-)
