Report on suspicious and unauthorised activities/ spam/fault after following deal/post

  1. For those who recently purchased Macpac Tshirt $10 deal posted, maybe worthhile to check credit card after reports on unauthorised credit card transactions.

  2. one of my ghost email addresses was found to be registered on an online dating site OKcupid. It was linked to a profile with a pretty girl picture.. Only noticed when the email account was swarmed with messages from men daily. This ghost email address was rarely used. Cannot be certain if it is related, but it was used on COTD few days before this happened.

  3. another account got spam by third party websites from China after shopping with some deals posted in OZB. I can't pin point which sites but have some idea.

Think it may be worthwhile if fellow OZB can share the information, so to be careful.

aren't you going to ask them to send you money so you can get a boob job? :)

When i look at the Profile pic i only see 1, so good idea mattgal ;)

  • I use my own domain name and always sign up to orders with [email protected]. DWI and Adobe addresses are the two largest sources of spam for me, and a half-dozen local companies have also been a source of inbound spam. Most local companies appreciated a confidential heads up when evidence of a breach was shared, but Spreets was unnecessarily obnoxious.

On credit cards, I also got caught out by the Macpac bargain. Pity that this has probably caused a fair bit of reputation damage on OzBargain, as they've been one of the better outdoor shops that's gone mass market.

  • Has anyone contacted the company about it, I assume Macpac are aware of it? You would think they would be contacting all members who purchased to let them know?

Weekend today. would not try to email them as it may be hacked as well. Try to report to Visa about the fraudulent activities, but was told to cancel the card and reissue another one if I worry. That's it !!!! What about my fellow OZB ers. Tried to private message others who commented in the Macpac deal and bought. Many have opted out "private message". Posted concern here in forum and reported to moderator. Cant think of much more I can do.

      • Yes I saw your moderator report and jumped in here to see what the status was.

I'd be happy to PM those members who have PM switched off, if you wanted to let me know via PM which members you haven't contacted? Rather than wait for the company to take action.

        Thanks!

Edit: Don't think you realised I was a moderator, added mod tag.
