Dishwasher tablets not dissolving.

Anyone else have the same problems with cheap tablets such as Coles brand or Woolworths Select? They won't dissolve.

When I first got my dishwasher a month ago I went through my stash of free brand name tablets from Pinchme no problem.

My dishwasher is only two months old. We've cleaned it, the filter etc.

I'm going to purchase some name brand tablets to see if I've still got the issue.

    Ok?

  • Some of the generic stuff from those rip off empires are absolute carp.

But some things are identical to the real stuff with different packaging , gotta look very closely.

    Total waste

  • never used home brands, Fairy is a good brand that's cheaper than other ones.

  • Just a thought, and you may have done this.

Cheaper tablets have a plastic wrap around them. That needs to be removed before use.

The expensive brands wrap dissolves, where as the cheap ones dont.

Ignore the little holder they sit in.

If in wrap take it out.

Put it on the floor of your Dishwasher.

Wash hands (not good on skin that stuff)

    Thank me later.

    • Agree this is exactly what we were told by the dishwasher repair man. Never had a problem since.

      • Agreed on placement. You could also use powder and adjust dosage accordingly.

    • Agree, I chuck mine in the bottom before I start a cycle. No issues here and I use cheap Woolworths ones.

  • Woolworths Select -never had a problem with them (300+ washes).

    take the wrapper off?

  • I'm not a big fan of tabs (some dishwashers have a separate TAB option that changes the program, presumably to dissolve them better), but cheap stuff is usually cheap for a reason.

For example, both the Coles and Woolworths cheap store brand dishwashing powder washes just fine, but repeated use can leave a grey film on your glassware. No problem - use the cheap stuff for three washes in a row and then on the fourth wash, put in the brand name product.

  • When my dishes are only lightly soiled, I use a very small amount of Earth washing liquid and some bicarb soda. Works great.

    • DO NOT PUT NORMAL DISH WASHING LIQUID IN YOUR DISHWASHER… Hello Foam!

      • You are right. When I put in too much, I got foam. I put in less than a teaspoon now and it works well on slightly soiled dishes.

        • I'm assuming you are talking about the bigger bottle, not the small concentrated one?

Just out of interest, where do you put the liquid?

        • I use the concentrated one, hence the very small amount I put the liquid in the dispenser. I have put the bicarb in with it in the past but found better results when i just drop the bicarb in the machine.I just put it on the machine door before closing it. As mentioned, I only do this when the dishes are very slightly soiled.

  • Yes. My wife even complained to the manufacturer.. The Powerball one from Finish I believe. Even in a brand new dishwasher they didn't dissolve. There are better brands that work better in some dishwashers.

Exactly same problem, just bought a brand new dishwasher the powerball from finish hard like a rock did not dissolve at all

Bought a dishwasher the other day and automatically bought the Finish tablets because they were on special, got home and realised they may not be the best for our greywater system. As it turned out that was correct, but hubby was in a hurry to try out the machine, so we simply resolved to buy some of the phosphate-free Earth Choice ones the next day and keep the Finish for when we have a particularly dirty load of dishes.

So, ran it first night with Finish, second night with Earth Choice, both nights about the same type of cleaning needed. The Finish left a residue on the glassware, Earth Choice, sparkling clean and clear.

They're on special at Coles until today for $12.50 for a box of 42. My brother suggested them, but he has trouble with the wrapper not disolving properly, so said he unwraps them. We simply put the wrapped tablet in the bottom and it disolved just fine.

  • So it turns out, it wasn't the tablets. The door that is meant to open during the wash cycle to release the tablet wasn't opening automatically, its to do with a faulty solenoid. Since its brand new, goodguys is taking care of it. If yours is older than two years, as others have suggested just put the tablet on the bottom.
