Tree Removal Charges (approx)

Hey Guys, got quoted 700 to cut 2 trees and remove their stumps. What are the average prices of tree removal? Never had something like this done before so trying to gauge if this is reasonable or I can find cheaper.

EDIT: a mate just told me he was quoted 550 but all the waste was left behind

  • um…
it depends on the trees, you can not compare one quote to another

  • Definitely depends in the type of tree, size of the tree and location (is there room around tree or is tree wedged in a tight spot etc). I had two palms cut down and 3 stumps ground down for around $300. The diameter of the stumps was 30cm - 45cm . The quotes went as high as $1000 for the same job.
I would recommend getting a few quotes for the job. I used serviceseeking.com.au to get quotes and another similar websites is hipages.com.au

    • 300$ is not cheap its not expensive either , 1000$ quote probably included the tree stump removal not ground down.
to just cut down a tree is not that expensive , its what they do with the stump that impacts the price the most.

  • i had a palm in my back yard that I wanted removing. went to bunnings and bought an electric chain saw and cut it down (and into little pieces). borrowed my neighbours ute and dumped all that at the tip. then as I was having some concrete removed from my backyard at the same time I asked the bobcat guy to dig out the root system. then I washed all the dirt of the root system (a lot of dirt). that made it easier to put the root system in the back of the ute. and off to the tip.

so $60 for the chain saw. and $50 for the additional time it took the bob cat guy to dig out the root.

for proper root removal the tree guys get in there with a industrial tree stump grinder.

if you don't need the roots removed immediately then you can get a drill with an extra long drill bit and drill in to it. add poison to kill the root and wait for it to rot up until the point that it is easy enough to remove it.

a tip for removing the root is to get a high pressure cleaner and spray around the base of the tree to expose the roots and the get a Ozito 850W Reciprocating Saw for $95 from bunnings to cut the roots.

of course depends on how big the trees are. and if you have the time.

  • Maybe post some pics of the trees. I've heard to give a tree a trim can cost up to $1000!! Sounds like a rip after reading the others above.

  • sometimes, with the right tree, people will come and do for it free because they want the wood/timber

  • I have gone ahead and paid to have these 2 trees removed for 700, got another quote for 800 so decided 700 was decent enough. However I think next time I will just get a chainsaw and do the trunk and branches myself, got another 4 trees big and small to cut down. I wanted to cut these 2 asap as they are close to the fence and roots are causing the old rotten wooden fence to fall over. He seems to have just grounded the stumps down but didn't remove the roots as such.
Claims that it will never grow again.

Thanks everyone for your advice, Will also check the services link as I have a citrus tree that's diseased and needs to be sprayed with some stuff apparently
