Christmas Price Gouging - OfficeWorks, HN Samsung Galaxy Tabs S

I priced this last night…
http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/samsung-galax…
http://www.harveynorman.com.au/samsung-galaxy-tab-s-10-5-16g…

It was $472 at both HN and OW. I put one in my cart and was intending to purchase today. The price has now gone up by $80-$120 overnight.

I'm not sure but this is probably common practice around this time of the year. They probably will "reduce" the price for post-Xmas sales.

Also wondering if I have any hope of getting either store to honour their price from yesterday?

  • The Officeworks one is $547 in their current catalogue, which has been out for a week or so…
They have the 8" at $479.
Are you sure of your facts?

If you have one in a cart at that price, it would be likely you would get it honoured. Take a screenshot.
Then it would just depend on WHO looked after you in store.

Definitely sure of price. I had both pages open in my browser last night. Refreshed them this morning and the prices have gone up on both pages, and in my HN cart. I know it's probably a case of you snooze, you lose but this is a crazy overnight increase.

Thanks for the -1 as well. Really mature of whoever did that. I'm simply trying to establish my rights. Geez.

      What rights?

  • OW usually move their price down to match the lowest price of the major stores to go with their Lowest Price Guarantee, so I assume that's why OW was down to that price. Now that HN have moved it back up, OW seems to have also moved back to their advertised price.

I do wonder why HN moved their price back up though, but looking at the link above it seemed to be a sale price since it was in red. The sale could've finished last night?

  • Maybe they had a sale that ended last night.

  • I wonder why you did not buy it during the 20% off ebay sale on the Good Guys?

Because I didn't have the money until today.

  • As much as I hate companies adding premiums to things and jacking up the price when the demand goes high, it is completely up to them on what to do with prices (within the boundaries of the law of course), unfortunately.

Because of the 20% off the eBay sales, TGG probably have little to no stock on those (I've got mine, but they said I was lucky since I've got the last one in their store). So the stock is fairly low, the demand for it probably is higher than usual since Christmas and presents and stuff.

Though, I am hoping to see some price drop on note tablets, since I've heard rumours of new note tablet being announced during December or January next year.

  • Seems like a simply case of price fluctuations. You didn't order in time so you missed out. Nature of the beast.
